n00b questions about A/R ratio and trim sizes

(Yes I have read the FAQ...)

I am a little confused as the the relationship and effects between trim sizes and A/R ratios--
Do trim sizes determine overall A/R ratio? Or is A/R just the size of the housings, you can stuff whatever trim sizes you want into that housing? If this is tru then if there two turbos (with the same A/R) and one had large trims and one small trims...the small trim would spool quick but drop off quick... and the large trims would spool slower but produce more top end ?

Thanks

Re:n00b questions about A/R ratio and trim sizes

trim is the size of your inlet on cold side/outlet on hot side (hole in the middle) and the wheel inside that hole. you have to have the right size housing to match the trim of the wheel or else they don't fit.

a/r is the area/ratio, it measures the ratio of the area of a cross section of your housing over the distance from the center of the housing to the center of that cross section in the housing. if I wasn't tired as ---- right now I'd find some pictures for you, there are pictures in maximum boost expaining this, without looking at those pictures I would have now idea what the ---- I just said up there, so you probably don't either.
