My turbo setup

here's what i got so far

2000 D16Y8 civic coupe

IHI TC04 Turbo w/ downpipe flange
95 CX manifold
Adapter Plate
Oil fittings
Oil Lines
MX-6 BOV
Misc. pieces of intercooler piping (still need more)
(just bought the above stuff from Lincoln213)
Front mount intercooler 30x6x3
Cold air intake (piping for the intake side)

the rest of my mods:
AEM Cam Gear
AEM Fuel Rail
B&M fpr
Venom Fuel Pump (in-tank)
MSD 6al Ignition
MSD Spark plug wires
Apex Exhaust

i've been doing alot of research here lately and i'd like to know what else i need to get this bad boy up and running. here's what im thinking:

FMU <---- can i go without for a couple weeks?
450 Injectors <---- can i go without for a couple weeks?
Downpipe <---- can i rig up something for the drive over to the exhaust shop?
Missing Link <--- i heard there's a way around this too right?
Piping from turbo to IC

if the parts that i ordered from Lincoln213 get in before this weekend, i'd like to get it all installed and fired up.

im trying to go as cheap as possible and so far i've got roughly $600 into the setup (including intercooler)

if i have to get the FMU, 450s, & missing link just to get it running i'll do it.

does anyone have any experience with the TC04 turbo? i know its small, but i think it'll be a good turbo for me to start out with. anyone know how much boost it puts out stock? (dodge colt i believe) does it have an internal wastegate? also, is the TC04 off the Colt water/oil cooled? do i need to run a water line also?

i need some help here guys

Re:My turbo setup

If you ae getting 450cc injectors you will need something to control them with(AFC, SMC, Chip,.....).

If you are using the FMU(no you can't go without unless you aren't going to boost)you will need the missing link(unless you aren't going to boost).

Re:My turbo setup

so i need to get the FMU & missing-link. would the stock injectors hold up to around 8lbs boost?

anyone have any info on the tc04 turbo? i think i read that the tc04 off the colt is set at 8lbs. not sure though.

Re:My turbo setup

The TCO4 is very small... i almost bought one but was glad i didn't when i saw one on a colt at a yard. I have pics of one mounted to an HF manifold but can't post them cuz I'm a retard. do I NEED to host them somewhere?

Re:My turbo setup

You're pushing it at 8 psi with an FMU. Very risky, but it will work. Be careful. :-\ I hope you have gauges?

Re:My turbo setup

Very nice. That intercooler looks ike it belongs there. Post more pics when you get started on the turbo. What else is done to the motor?

a FMU wont handle 8psi?

Dr.Boost 07-08-2003 07:51 PM

Re:My turbo setup

It will, but it's not exactly the safest way to boost that high. Those things aren't reliable and you can't tune them. I hope you have the 12:1 disk?

Re:My turbo setup

what would be a better better way to go? i've heard bad & good things about the greddy blue box. what should i get? i'd like to run around 6-8psi (reliably) and be able to run around 12-14 occasionaly.

Dr.Boost 07-08-2003 07:56 PM

Re:My turbo setup

OMG do not run 12-14 with the FMU!!! If your planning on going that high I would suggest Hondata. Is your motor built?

Re:My turbo setup

LOL the pics I have are the exact same one you have of the turbo mounted up...small world. I tried researching that turbo because I was gonna buy from the same guy and couldn't find much...I ended up at some colt forums but most of them had upgraded to 14b's etc. and couldn't tell me much...I can tell you this though you're gonna have boost almost off idle. One question for ya....do you have the air injection on your intake manifold? It has a nipple ON the flange between the #2 and #3 IM runners. I bought an EX IM off ebay and tried putting it on w/o knowing about the air injecton...leaked like a bitch! so I JB welded the holes up now all I need is the IM gasket...which I cannot find...I dunno if the air injection started on the 99 or 2000 models....I even work at a Honda dealership and they couldn't tell me...I looked through the service manuals and all.

Re:My turbo setup

not yet :'( but it will

let me check the intake.

yep

Re:My turbo setup

i think im going to go with the 12:1 FMU & missing link and just keep the boost down until the motor is ready. thanks Dr.Boost for the help. if anyone knows anything about this turbo, i could sure use the info. im going to check some Colt forums like 2000psi and see if i can find anything. i'll post more pics when everything is installed!

Re:My turbo setup

Get an inline fuel pump, or in tank fuel pump, use the missing link, and the fmu, and you will be fine.

Im running a votech FMU(12:1) , Inline fuel pump, and stock injectors. Im running 8psi and it has been reliable as hell for the last 4 years or so.

Personally, I would go with 450cc and AFC. I have never used them before but from what i gather, it's a safer combo.

jdm1ke 07-09-2003 02:03 AM

Re:My turbo setup

i've already got an in-tank venom fuel pump. i found a 12:1 fmu on ebay for $50 and a missing link for $50. are these good prices? what do they go for around here? right now im looking at another $100 + a downpipe to get it running.
