My Turbo Project - Let the flaming begin

I'll be the first to say it: domestic rice.

I thought i would put some pictures of the progress of my install on here, and see what you all think. I don't actually have the turbo installed yet; i need to have it sent off to BLAAST for a rebuild. It's a t3/t4 hybrid with a t04E-40 trim compressor and a .48 A/R T3 turbine. I know it's not a Honda (seems to be a lot of them on here), but It is "homemade", so enjoy.

For those who don't know, the PT does come in a turbo-model, but this is an 02 and the turbos came out in 03 (and has a stupid internal-to-manifold design).

So here it is: most of the pictures are of the fuel management and intercooler work. This car dosn't have a return line stock, so we had to add one. I am using a cartech FMU and Hahn Racecraft's fuel management system. The car has a 2.4L 16v engine.

A lot of car shows I go to have cruisers just like yours. My only question;

I am using a cartech FMU and Hahn Racecraft's fuel management system.

Are you able to use SRT parts? I know that you dont have the turbo model, but the pt's with turbos use the exact same motor as the srt-4 according to car and driver. Maybe you can use the srt-4 ecu and other parts?

Slick setup... those things look comical without a front bumper, though. :1

So if you dont have the turbo installed, does that mean you are rocking charge pipes and an intercooler for nothing?

Yeah, it basically wraps round the engine.

It's a 5:1

Unfortunatelly, the ECU is completelly different, as is the wiring harness. My best option is Megasquirt, which I will probablly be running by the end of the year if all goes well.

Thanks for the comments folks.

No it's not.

It doesn't look bad I guess. I mean, it is a PT crusier to begin with. Outside is baller, but I don't like loud music and TV's and all that stuff then again it's not my car. :)

Oh and the FMU is not 5:1 again for reference.

Id say you shoulda bought the stock 2.4 liter (or whatever displacement it is) turbo to begin with and just upgraded ---- since the engine is built for it. Anyways its nice but a little boughetto (interior wise) for me.

the stock 2.4T isnt that different; it has larger oil runners and lower compression pistons, as well as ports for turbo oil on it. People boost this motor that I have all the time; it is a popular Neon swap, and since it's a 420a, the manifolds are easy to come by. The conrods in it are junk though, in both the turbo and NA motors. I will be upgrading the internals with eagle rods and weisco pistons when I decide to go past 9psi of boost. Even stock srt4 ones can't handle much more than 14 psi or so, especially if there is an accidental detonation when tuning.

don't srt4's run like 15psi stock?

yeah I think they can see 16psi, but they're still weak when detonation happens.

Crazy man. Looks like you have some serious fundage.

Did you do all of the interior work yourself?

it's a 0.48 stage 1 turbine ??? What are your power goals ? :-*

Re: My Turbo Project - Let the flaming begin

WOW! this car would not remain that white and clean for too long with me in it! ;D

is that a 0.48 stage 1 turbine ??? if so, it's a super good match with the 40 trim T04E!
it's a hell of a little hybrid turbo but you will be under 300 BHP. For sure... is that sufficient for you?

I am considering a .63 A/R exhaust turbine housing... Yes it is a .48 right now.

300 BHP is plenty for now though...you should see this in your shop as soon as i get my tax return in Guill!

Thanks for the compliment! One of the few non-haters to post! Yeah I did it all myself. I'm studying Mechanical Engineering at Kettering University, and they have a co-op program that is mandatory for students to work 6 months of the year...so I get a lot of good cash that I can spend on the car and have a lot of friends up here who like doing this kind of stuff too that can lend a hand when wrenching.
