1995 Civic Hatch D15B7 IHI RHB5 (Stock 8psi) HF Manifold w/ Adapter Plate Downpipe Rubber Hoses & Clamps Probe Intercooler DSM Fuel Pump DSM BOV BBK FMU Check Valves Oil Feed/Return Lines Vacuum Lines 2.5" Exhaust DynoMax Turbo Muffler Bosch Spark Wires NGK Spark Plugs On 8psi, do i need to hook up the check valves? Anybody here with a d15b7/RHB5? My motor dies out around 6100RPM so i think this turbo should hold all the way. |
Re:My setup
Thats actually pretty normal for that type of setup, the RHB5 stops pulling right at 6000rpms. Possible some head work, larger cam, and bigger DP will help this out a bit.
Check valves are going to be a must, I'd start with 2 first and see how it goes, do a pull in 3rd gear with a heavy load (meaning start low at like 2000 rpms all the way up) and see if the light comes on. Sounds good though, post some pics! Jeff |
Re:My setup
couldnt his car be going into limp mode at 6k? if he has no checkvalves currently?
sounds like he meant it dies abruptly, not just the turbo stops being efficient, or stops boosting at max. correct me if i'm wrong. |
Re:My setup
shouldnt the car be shutting off once it senses boost past 3 psi without check valves??
|
Re:My setup
no theres a whole topic in honda-tech about this.. basically it won't get a check engine light untill AFTER 8 psi so i was told, thats without check valves, tuned correctly.

Re:My setup
yeah rumor has it that 8psi is the magic number without check valves. I never ran a car without check valves or had a setup that needed it. My friend's GSR he used to be able to unplug his MAP sensor and not throw a CEL. His excuse was that the ECU 'learns' and adapts. This car did run a 13.0 and is now sitting in his front yard with a nice rod through the block. :-\
