My official noob post. Pics and specs of my 4agte
I've been lurking for years and made a fews posts now and then, so it's a little late. But better than never. Back in 04-05 I had a 99 CX hatch, swapped over everything but the cluster from a 99 Si. Had a Rev Hard 2C kit, Eagle crank and rods, JE pistons and all kinds of other stuff. Almost stock looking on the outside, just 1.5" lower, and Si lip and wheels, Egay type R grill, painted side moulding like an Si and Thermal exhaust. I spent alot of money on that car and then it was stolen. All I got back was an empty shell. It took awhile to get back into it but now I do ---- as cheap as I can.
I picked up an 86 MR2 (Auto, rusty, barely ran, ugly as hell) for $250 almost two years ago for a dd. I rebuilt the engine, changed to 5 speed, fixed the rust and painted it, and threw some wheels on it. All as cheap as possible and all work was done by me.
Before
When I rebuilt the engine the ------- retard at CarQueers sold me some small port high comp pistons. I noticed the small difference and asked around but never got a good answer if they were right for my engine. I went ahead and used them and forgot all about it. Two months ago I boosted it and it lasted about four miles. Yes, four ------- miles. AFR was good, no detonation, just too much pressure. I heard recently that those high comp pistons in a red top 4age make for 11:1 compression or at least 10.3:1. Either way those Beck/Arnley cast pistons didn't last long. It broke the ring lands out of No. 1
Time to put a little more effort into this. The goal was to have a reliable daily driver with around 180 hp. More specifically I want midrange power. That will make an MK1 MR2 fun.
The parts...
4age Red Top
Fresh from the machine shop
.5 mm overbore with .005" piston clearance and decked
cleaned and valve job
Polished parts are pretty
4AGZE 8:1 81.5mm pistons (forged, ceramic coated), stock rods, all toyota bearings.
ARP studs and Toyota HG
Damn I need a welder so I can make my own
Actual Size!
This is the idea
Spec stage 2+
365cc 4AGZE injectors. tapped the rail for a gauge.
DSM intercooler and BPV
For management and tuning I have an LM-1 and det cans. I'm going to break in the engine on the stock ECU, but I am ordering Megasquirt tomorrow.
This project is currently as shown in the last pic. Hopefully I'll start it up this week.
Now gimme some feedback.
And finally what you've all been waiting for...
Sorry, no noodz. But she still makes my pants tight.
