My new car **PICS**
I just bought my 95 Acura Integra Special Edition for $2k. 180k miles, Original owner, all maintenance is up to date, timing belt, water pump, wires, spark plugs, etc..

After some simple green/degreaser, the engine bay looks pretty nice for having 180k miles. http://i44.tinypic.com/j81eog.jpg While driving the car, I constantly smelled burning oil. I opened the hood and saw smoke coming off this area. I smelled it and surely enough it was the same smell. I couldn't really see what's going on because of the heat shield blocking the manifold. I assumed it's oil leaking/dripping onto the exhaust/catalytic converter?? http://i43.tinypic.com/fvgtia.jpg Jacked the car up to see what could be the cause...and here it is. What do you guys think is causing that burning smell? http://i42.tinypic.com/2m7bwad.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2zewnbc.jpg I also found out I am going to have to replace BOTH CV Axles http://i44.tinypic.com/9vjm0n.jpg Just for ---- & giggles, I called a local mechanic to see how much to replace the Pressure Steering Hose & Both CV Axles. Do you think this price is fair? LABOR ONLY: Power steering pressure hose - 2 hours - $180 with tax. Both CV Axles - $500. |
that's a really good price for having a shop replace that stuff.
i think you should roll up your sleeves though...there are more than enough resources online for you to take care of that stuff on your own. |
whoa, just read the labor only part. The shop might be jacking up the labor because you're bringing your own parts...
i would do both axles for about $500 including parts at my shop. that's right off the top of my head, but if that's for labor only it's a little steep. nice acura, lucky you found an obd1 car. they're few and far between out here |
It's hard to find a good & honest mechanic. Is that an oxymoron? (honest + mechanic /=
dude that's cake work, besides you wouldn't be on this site if you didnt plan to do some work yourself so roll those sleeves and get a manual and some knowledgeable friends and tear into it
That's what I call "bone-stock". It looks like an OK deal on the price... but it's going to cost you another $500+ right off the bat. The interior is clean, and junkyard seats are cheap. I hope you're fine with it being an auto... kinda limits you on performance, no?
It's my 2nd car (aka project/beater) so it's not a big deal whether it's automatic or not.
So I took the exhaust off today to find where oil is leaking & burning off other than the oil pan gasket. Here are some pics, anyone have an idea? http://i43.tinypic.com/34r7p1k.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/1tpngk.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/1zq59g9.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2cdfozs.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/2ur1ruo.jpg |
look like the hg may have a small hole in it
What's the deal here? this is supposed to be Home Made Turbo, not "Oh look, I just bought a old honda with a leaky head gasket, and busted cv boots, and thought I'd bring it to show-n-tell".
I need to see pics of another old honda, like Kennedy needs another parade. Tell me you've at least done some other post, where you've attempted putting a "cai" on a car. |
2k, thats a steal for being 2nd owner
clean for the mileage
yeah good deal but i would look into putting a hg on it may not be mixing coolant and oil but looks to be leaking oil out of the block
its super common for the left front to leak but \you dont really see the right front of it leaking?(but it does have 180k) pull the valve cover and take a look at the cam seals and the side of the head. the oil feeds from the left so my guess there is something else going on
nice buy
He's not going to turbo it, he's just wants your approval on his latest purchase. His only other "self generated" post is the same sort of thing, some other car purchase he made. This guy should be/stay in "general discussion" with the other "look I just got a car!" post, not here in "forced induction", with the fabricators and builders who actually turbocharge their machines.
------- posers |
sick..
boost it and blow the hg and tranny

I put 12k on it before the motor popped. So now I spent 400 on a 99 B18b1, traded MPFI parts for some 17" velox gm's, skunk2 coilovers from my last EG, half size rad for 60 bucks, new drivers side axle- 90 bucks, del sol gray stripe seats for 50 bucks, AVIC D3- traded for old laptop and old CD player, 01 front lights-110, front bumper, free from work... So i have twice the car for half of what you spent. Back yard deals-priceless |
wheres the TURBO?
IT IS ------- AUTOMATIC, enough said, and I among others do not care what you purchase, especially if it is an old, high mile, stock economy car. If there is nothing being to done to this I would personally want to delete the thread.
dude i would not pay 500 for axels and labor. get fluid and axels from autozone for 150 and two bolts later there out! lower ball joint and shock fork bolt, turn wheel side ways and pop. plus anyone notice it has gsr fat fives, a gsr dohc vtec looking badge on the back "little silver rectangle", but a ls looking motor, please correct me if im wrong, i mostly am. still a decent price, but still.....its a automatic!
IT LOKKS GOOD
IT LOOKS GOOD
um leatheer
auto:(
nice car
the oil in/on the face of the manifold and ports would suggest leaky valve seals, which would also explain the constant oil burning smell, very common for a higher mileage B motor. Is there nobody on this forum who knows jack ---- about tech anymore?
good luck with the car
LOOKS GOOD!!!!
So it will be a Turbo Automatic!!!!
500 for labor on axels is ------- ridiculous...........
