My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

A halffastmotorsports.com production !

Sup guys, ive been a member on here for many years and so i thought id share my latest setup. Without ALOT of knowledge ive learned through this site it would probably still be n/a after all these years lol.

quick specs:

91 civic dx
rebuilt d16z6 - acl bearings, npr rings & arp head studs
mpfi, obd0-obd1 conversion, vtec wiring etc.
rebuilt 91 crx si trans

garrett .42/.48 t3
drag cast t3 manifold
jrc intercooler (damn things are hard to find now!!)
hfms custom 2.5" downpipe
2.5" mandrel intercooler piping
knockoff tial bov
dsm blacktop 450s reman'd
function7 oil line kit

i actually went through a lot more trouble with this than my last setup which used a hf mani & bmc plate and alot of corner cutting. I actually modified the stock core support and moved my rad forward about 3/4" to clear the turbo because i couldnt make a EG rad fit for ---- without changing my crossmember, hence why there is only 1 bracket up top, but it is secure. the turbo is a garrett ta0301 off a mb diesel, but its a GREAT turbo. the wastegate isnt a flapper style but actually a valve style just like an external and has 0 creep issues. its dead on 7psi every time. its by far the best internally gated turbo ive ever seen.

anyway i could write for pages so if you have any questions or wanna tell me im an idiot thats cool.

You can find the complete spec list at http://www.halffastmotorsports.com

That's DAMN close to the radiator! Setup looks good.

Re: My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

Yea its deceivingly close in that last pic, its actually got around .5 clearance. Theres no chance of it hitting.

thanks. the only questionable part as far as appearance is the downpipe where i cut it wrong and had to fill a gap with some weld lol. but its nothing some header wrap cant conceal.

nice. How do you like that manifold compared to the HF?

I have the same clearance problem with that manifold and my t3 .42/.48 from "upgrading" my HF in my g1teg. Instead of trying to make ---- fit, I decided to try to make my own manifold.

I think this manifold is a 5x improvement over the HF. The inside diameter of the runners is much larger, all the runners collect very well. Plus its cast so you know it wont break and the price was right! MY biggest problem with the HF manifold was that hte turbo was hung so low and i had oil return problems. But those problems are gone with this mani.

That o2 sensor location looks like a wideband murderer......Other than that VERY clean build, props

Re: My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

Have you ever looked at o2 locations on stock turbo setups? Mine is sitting a good 6-7 inches away from the turbo outlet. Its right where it needs to be

Re: My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

AEM says specifically in their directions 18 inches from the turbine.....a majority of the factory turbo cars minus vw i believe are running narrow band. Either way its not my $250 down the hole. Just tryin to offer a helping piece of advice, not tryn to get anyone bent out of shape. Its a clean build

Re: My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

I'm curious how the BOV sounds. I know the real Tial is a sort of medium "puuuuusssh" sound on smaller motors, but I've not had anyone say how the knockoffs sound.

BTW if it was me I'd relocate the wideband to the rear of the motor. It will still be hot enough, get gas pulses quick enough, and in general be better. If you are subbing a narrowband in later, it really wouldn't matter much.

Re: My latest setup: d16z6 turbo

Side by side this knockoff tial sounds exactly like my friends real deal tial, only its about $100 cheaper. Its not a very loud valve at lower boost like im running but can certainly make some noise on a high boost app. Im actually looking to trade it for a SSQV or RFL. Im still a ricer in the fact that i like to be heard lol.
