My free 86 CRX SI I picked up today

So, I picked up my new FREE CRX today. :)

This guy just wanted it off his property so he gave it to me to tow away. He said it would need a new engine but other then that it is decent shape. Well, here is what I found when I got there.

Overall the car is not in bad shape. It has been sitting for over a year so the inside needs some serious cleaning. But as I got closer I noticed something a little odd, can you spot it?

Keep scrolling.

Maybe this will help to those without the keen eye!!!

Apparently the guys brother who originally owned and abandon the car boosted it :) Works out great for me. Let take a look under the hood shall we? Did I mention this was FREE!!!

Is that a 16V head I see. Also if you look closer you will see the 7 pin SI distributor plug for the electronic advance. Looks like someone did all of the hardwork for me. This just keeps getting better and better.

Looks like it is a Saab .42 .48 turbo. Also has this minty saab FMIC :D

Not sure what size injectors on on here. Will have to figure that one out later.

So then I decided to see what other shinny stuff was in the car. Low and behold when I open the glove box!!!

Blow of valve and a AEM Fuel Pressure regulator

Also not pictured was the OBD0 PR4 chipped ECU under the seat. Looks like I just need to get a new bottom end under this thing and I have a new FREE toy :) More pics to come later. Have to finish the DelSol first.

Damn, awesome find man. Rexsk8r has one of those cars...it's not boosted now, but has been in the past. That thing is so quick with boost. It's such a small car.

I've noticed reading comprehension is not your strong point. According to a lot of your posts.

On another note! You're a lucky SOB, I would never find a deal like this. :6

Those are 240cc injectors, and I have no idea how they got a D16 in there. Post pics of the mounts, dude, there is something different going on here.

You can use teg mounts.

Integra mounts are Civic mounts in those years, except for the driver's Integra mount which gets thrown out the window when you swap the D16A1 engine in + use the Civic mount. The only difference is the rear mount has two bolt holes through it instead of three, but aside from that in all respects is the exact same mount.

The D15A3/EW3, D16A1, and brown top ZC drivetrains are *different* from 88+ D-series. Mounting points and bolt patterns, bellhousing patterns, head bolt patterns, it is not a bolt together or drop in situation.

Re: My free 86 CRX SI I picked up today

It is an EW4 block with a D16A6 head it looks like. I'll post pics tonight. I took the valve cover off and looks like all the head bolts are there except the two on the left and the one on the back right facing from the front of the car. Those three have studs in them (Not ARP) look like allthread. The back left one has some meat cut ground out with looks like a dye grinder in the most ghetto of fashion O0 but it fits. I will try to get some detailed pics up tonight.

Tom-Guy 07-21-2008 07:05 PM

Re: My free 86 CRX SI I picked up today

Dunno about headbolt/stud depth, but one of the holes completely doesn't line up. If there is meat to drill an extra hole I dunno, but it sounds like it.

Looks like I will have to get a set of 450s for the new engine. Should make for some good carnage pics once I get this bitch out.

swapping in a 88+motor using the factory 1st gen crx si trans is doable. The old man use to do them all the time back in the 90's. Little ghetto adapter plate does the trick. But,yes hardly a drop in no headache swap

Re: My free 86 CRX SI I picked up today

If you keep the vintage 1.5 bottom end please keep in mind they have the wussy failure rods of the later D15s, as well as the pistons being made from compressed mule ----. The pistons break in half on stock engines, add boost for maximum failure.

I'd upgrade to D16 stuff the easy way - D16A1, yo. Actually, nix that, I'll buy the car off you for what you have in it, I ------- LOVE those cars.
