My first "Which turbo?" thread

So I'm gearing up for my first boosted ride this summer. Probably gonna get a 92ish civic, don't really care if its VTEC or not. Turbos I have been contemplating so far are:

14b
T3 .42/.48
T3 .48/.60

Couple of questions: Is a .42/.48 bigger than the 14b?

I don't mind lag, I would really love a .48/.60 but it's hard to find a good one cheap. If I end up getting the .42/.48 will it die out near top end? Shooting for 220 whp with uberdata

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

I don't know what a 14b is, but I do know that the compressor side of a T25 is .48. I'd assume the 14b is larger, but I have no clue.

I'd hold out to get a .48/.60. If not, I don't think a 14b would be too bad.

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

All I know is the 14b is the bigger turbo used on manual DSM's rather than the auto's with the T25. No way am I getting something as small as a T25. Anybody know for sure is a 14b or T3 .42/.48 is bigger?

sorry buddy, but the 14b is the older manual turbo (autos got 13g)...the t25 was used in the 2nd gen manuals and autos

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

i have a .42/.46? i believem, and it seems to be the same size as a 14b, but i heard you can run more boost from a 14b....

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

I really want a .48/.60 but can't find one as of yet, I'd runa .42/.48 if it's larger than a 14b, I have a suspicion they are similar in size. Can anyone verify if the .42/.48 will run out of breath on a D?

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

just go wtih the 14b untill you can get a T3, but save for a bigger size T3, like a super 60 or something. 14bs can push some pwoer, i kno by buddy is runnin about 14psi, but thats on a TSi...but its still a 14b

get the t3...it will save you time and money when you upgrade to a larger one instead of needing a new flange/mani

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

---- I didn't win. I STILL would like to know if a .42/.48 T3 is larger than a 14b. Anyone???

accordepicenter 05-19-2005 05:28 PM

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

hmm i dont think its larger, its comparable in size, maybe a little smaller (you probably wont notice) id get a T3 anyway, then go to a 48/60 or 63/60, mine is fully boosted by 4000

HMTguy 05-19-2005 06:26 PM

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

*kinda off topic*
right now i have a lilttle t25 42/48, i recently found a good deal on a t3 48/60.. is there a notice differnce in performance? does it just continiue to make power at higher speeds?

accordepicenter 05-20-2005 08:42 PM

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

it just is more efficient when making over 200hp and might pull a little harder at the very limit of the upper rpm ranges but thats pretty much it. I doubt youd notice a difference between a .42/.48 and a .60/.48 at 7psi

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

You'll be happy either way jago. I enjoyed my .48/.60 on my B series while I had it. It was pretty fun for driving on the street.

HMTguy 05-20-2005 09:06 PM

Re: My first "Which turbo?" thread

Yea I'm gonna get a cheap civic and keep the 3gee for my winter beater. Hopin the .48/.60 will do well on a stock D-series, probably non-vtec
