Default My day at the dyno; boost spikes, richness, etc. INFO NEEDED!!

O.K. So I've had a t3/t4, intercooler, fmu, 255lph pump on my 94 gsr since last june. Its run well, but I decided to go Uberdata a few weeks ago. I love that program!!! BUT, I went to the dyno today (yesterday ) and it was a big cluster f-ck. With everything set to basemap 440's (which i'm now running), my first pull was so rich it didn't even register on the wideband, but netted me a whopping 194hp :P! That was at about 6psi. So we tuned it leaner for several pulls and got it to register very low 10's afr (207hp ). So while burner a leaner chip, I upped the boost a little (turned down the spring on my deltagate, which is mounted on a Drag manifold) and on my next pull, my afr still registered in the low 10's, but my boost went to a little over 6psi, hovered, and then rose until Uberdata told it to shut off at 8.013 psi. (my programmed boost cut)! I HAVE NEVER HAD A BOOST CREEP ISSUE!!! WTF! Sorry it took so long but here's my question: Will a low afr cause the boost to spike because of too much exhaust gas energy?! I mean is there so much "still burning fuel" coming out of my exhaust ports that its overloading my wastegate now?!!! Again, I've NEVER had a creep issue with this setup, even running 8psi with my fmu. I think its gotta be because its too rich but need some insight. HELP!

Mike, this might be better suited for the Engine Management section. Would you like me to move this topic over there for better trouble shooting?

Thanks quadnie. Done. I actually already posted there under "street_kings help a brotha out". I should have included your name because you know what the hell you're talking about too . Thanks man.

Well I know a good bit, but I have zero experience with uberdata

Did you already post all the info in this thread into the EM section or would you still like me to move this one over? Jason will just delete the post if it's a double, or we can just leave this one here if you feel you will recieve some help.

Let me know how I can help you, sorry I don't have the immediate answers you are seeking.

Thanks ryan. I posted allready in em so I'll see what happens. Thanks though. Do you have any info on the boost creep issue? I know these Deltagates are pretty lame, but still, having no problems with it until I get the Uberdata (and a very low AFR) makes me wonder what's to blame.

Well it could be a lot of things, my expertise are limited in this area, but I can see what I can tell you.

First, what kind of exhaust?

Is there any other restrictions you can think of.. maybe air filter?

I would most likely lay the blame on that shitty wastegate first.. just cap that bitch off for a test run and see what it will do for you on the street. I can't much help on the tuning issues, it's kinda black and white and with the proper basemap you shouldn't be experiencing these kinda mad problems.

8psi? I'd be mad that it didn't hit 10.

Boost creep will usually happen before it stabalizes at a pressure, so it's weird that it would start climbing during the whole pull. I'd think it has something to do with the wastegate not opening? or something.

well the deltagate is known to cause boost creep. and so does the drag mani because of the placement of the wg on 1 runner. rather than in the end of all the runners. so that might be a problem. how did u get the boost cut to work. i set mine at 9 psi and i was boosting 11 all day. haha freakin i blame uberdata for my blown ringlands. but yeah your mani and wastegate could possibly be your problem

The thing is I've NEVER had a boost creep issue with this setup using my fmu, so I think there's gotta be more energy coming out of the exhaust with my rich AFR with Uber, that is overloading the Deltagate (even though it is crap). I could even hear the wastegate opening at 6 and staying open the whole time. Dunno. As for the boost cut in Uber: you HAVE to check the box to enable FTL in order for boost cut to work. This is no prob cause you can set the FTL to 7k rpm and 2 mph if you want. If you did check this box and its still "not working" then I'd say there is a discrepancy between what your boost gauge is registering and what your map sensor is "seeing". My gauge is actually a pound or two low.

PS- Do you know of any other better manifolds that will allow me to retain my ac
