MSD SS Blaster Coil

I bought a SS blaster coil and cap for my turboed D16. I here alot of things about, some good and some bad. I wanna know if i can use it with a stock coil pack and have that as extra to increase the spark. Some say that it will blow the stock pack.

get rid of the stock coil and run the blaster and cap... you'd be better off just returning that ---- anyway, since stock honda ignition systems work fine, even with built motors.

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

I've been running a external Blaster SS Coil and MSD cap for a while. I finally broke the cap(my stupidity) and modified a OEM one using the Power tower on the MSD Cap. You'll be fine. I have no complaint about mine abd niether does my friend with a Stock B16.

Stock Coils are fine, but I have read stories of them overheating and starting fires when used with a MSD 6a or any other ignition box because the can't handle the extra duration of the spark.

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

Is there something i can do to make it work right and not cause fires. Will it actually give me a more powerful spark? I've seen alot of people use these and they say it helps out. Should i use it by itself or with an ignition control unit.

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

Your blaster will not cause a fire. And as I said, I only heard stories of them catching, never witnessed it. If you have the blaster and Cap, use it, It will give you a stronger spark.

Thanx man. I'll put it to use. Has it actually aided you?

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

Hard to tell. I put it on when I was N/A. I had an Accel on it before, and The MSD was a BIG improvement over the Accel.

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

the blaster ss will not work with your stock coil. you have to remove it in order to install the modified cap also, dont even try it you will probably burn your igniter

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

So, if i remove the stock blaster pack and run the ss blaster coil, will i be ok with that? It will pretty much just be a more powerful spark and take the place of the current stock one, right? :-\

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

Right. Just pull out your stock coil, take the two wires from it, extend the wires to the new coil and put on the proper cap.

Re: MSD SS Blaster Coil

I started out with just the cap and coil, later upgrade to a full msd ignition system, but cant really tell the difference.
