Default Mounting turbo dwnstream rather than at mani?

I picked up a t3 turbo for a '99 explorer 4.0 ohv. While looking at clearance issuses in the engine campartment I cam the the conclusion that the most opportune spote to mount the turbo rather than make a mani was near where the precat on the pass side is. Will there be any issues tucking it back that far? obviously this means my intake tubes are going to be a HELL of a lot longer. Any input would be appreciated..... also reason I am not to plussed about fabbing up a mani is because the A/c would interfere too much..... regards

i think he means downstream in the exhaust system, which could have a number of problems result from it. think of you oil feed and return.

i have a better question, why turbo a ford explorer?

if you have like 1 baby leak anywhere in your exhaust piping from the header then your screwed. there's so many more problems that can exist. keep it original. everyone does it that way for a reason.

It's not rocket science, and if you're not an idiot you can do just about anything. So yeah, doing it down stream is totally doable. worried about the oil lines? just get an external electric pump. being farther away from the mani the exhaust gas will be cooler so the turbo won't spool up as fast - Header wrap will help keep the heat in the pipes. Good luck man and if you really want to do it don't listen to the naysers but constructive critiscism is always good.

That what these guys do. Honda-Tech seems to like the idea quite a bit... In your application it should work fine. Don't forget a flexpipe.
