I have never really read up or seen any baffled or "homemade/modified" oil pans. has anyone tried this or messed around with it?



edit, this might wanna be placed in the hybrid section, kevin you can make that call...

 

i know spoon makes one, but i'm sure its like 300 bucks :P and i'm sure morroso has some out for the sport compacts. but do you think its realy work it? i meen making your own would most likey cause welding to the oil pan, and i'm not to big on the idea of that, exspecialy when it deals with getting some leftovers having the chance to brake off in there or making sure you have the right clearance to make it work properly. but i guess if your really skilled and sure that you could pull it off it would be ok. i personly would rather just pick one up that was allready made, and not have to worry about it. it just comes down to if its worth it and would your oil get that starved that you would even need it

 

im just courious if anyone has ever done it. -and if they did, how did they do it, and what did they add where.
while helping with an install, we swapped oil pans and the new one (which was on a used built bottom end) was all but out at the bottom leaving it 100% open. just courious if anyone else has done this...

OK, so here is a stupid question...how does this baffle work? what are the benifits? what does it do ? i think i saw an article somewhere where they modified the oil pan but i didnt really undestand why.

 

As the crank spins it kinda takes some oil with it in like a vortex. The baffle keeps that from happening. It frees up a couple hp and if you have one that ties into the main bearings it provides a little more strength for the bottom end.

when we tore apart that other motor, (what i was talkin about in the first post) we noticed, the oil pan had been made similar to this one...

 

The baffles are there to help insure the pickup has enough oil. In heavy duty applications such as drag racing, road racing, and off road, oil can slosh around and starve the pickup. Some pans are equiped with trap door baffles for even more insurance. Those baffles will do nothing to decrease frictional losses and increase horsepower.
