mkIII supra
is it worth buying a non-turbo 3rd gen supra and slapping a turbo on it later or is there too much work and money involved? i've heard alot of people say it wasnt worth it. i really want a turbo supra but the only one i have the optioin of buying is an automatic, but i found a couple of stick shift non turbo ones. look forward to the news, thanks alot.
That car is bitch to work on, plus it's not even fast. An ls/vtec cant destroy one with raised boost and the short gears of the NA tranny. Take my advice and buy a 240 and do a silvia swap. The car is far more nimble, faster, better looking and easier to work on. If you want to stay with Toyota then buy an older AE86. mk3 stupras are just pigs in every possible way.

If you sift the links, John Lunsford has the highest dynoing stock ECU MkIII Supra in the world - last I knew she was 460 whp at 490 tq. They are pretty simple cars - stick a T04 compressor into the stock CT26 for under $400, replace stupid restrictive stock O2 housing and exhaust, add a boost controller, and you're good - on stock injectors - to around 20-21 lbs. No need to get bigger injectors or even a standalone until running a straight T4 and pushing some jack to the ground. I've watched John, in his heavy fat **** 4000 lb Supra, goddamn assrape a blown C5 Corvette multiple times from a standstill and from a roll - he has the video posted up on his website if you poke around.
Despite the hype, the 7M-GTE is inexpensive, and holds a ---- ton of power. Most of the original engines with headgasket problems have been replaced with OEM MLS units and don't have any such problems any more.
Orlando Rosario, he lives in the same town as John Lunsford and I, has a 91 model with everything done to it that John's does. I did some of the work on his car, they are not any worse to work on than anything else you've never turned a wrench on. You can fit your hand wherever you need to to get at bolts, and the only annoying thing was the allen key headbolts - boo hoo I had to reach deeper into my toolbox for tools I don't normally use, that every mechanic or hobbyist should possess.
Is the problem that you dont want an auto? trust me the lack of gears to bang will go out the window when your pulling 21 pounds of boost for a small amount of $ I have driven Orlandos car and I can tell ya its faster than any 240 you could build for the price range.....im thinkin best 1/8th was 8.4 1/4 was 13.1 on very shity street tires slipping clutch and 15 pounds of boost.Slicks and a bc that will pull 21 will be added soon so im guessing it can only get better....1 thing JD didnt mention is that nither one of these cars has Vtech so your gonna have to really do some internet whoring to find some info on getting it installed.....................ps dont forget headstuds

Just buy a turbo car, or a turbo engine and swap it in. Don't waste your time turboing the 7MGE.
The only thing wrong with the 7MGTE is the OEM headgaskets got undertorqued at the factory and have a tendency to blow. I've also heard rumours that the oiling system isn't so great, but of all the lurking I've done on the supraforums.com board, the engines can hold a -----ton of power reliably.
