i bought and install my EGT but i would like to know what is the perfect temperature of a good mixture.

You won't know until you dyno and run a wideband. The EGTs are only a general reading of your mixture. You need to tune with a wideband O2 for specific information.

Plus, it'll be slightly different for each vehicle. Temps will be different based on how much horse is being created, and how much air and exhaust is being pull/pushed through the engine.

But it could give me an idea if i run lean???

if the temperature go to 1500 1600 F that mean that the mixture is lean no?

Ya, it'll give you a general idea. Don't let BoostED9 hear that you're using one.. He'll give you a tongue lashing. :)

ok, i first idea is too go on the dyno but write now, in canada at -15 degree is not good for now. So could you give me more info??? in how much inch your prob is??? i install it in my 02 sensor hole so at 3 inch of the head.

on your setup at how many is good for you???

No no.. I'm sorry, I don't have an EGT.. I meant my air fuel ratio gauge.. just a general reading one. Sorry for the misunderstanding..

ok, no problem, i have a A/F to but i really don't like it because it doesn't give me a good idea because it go from rich to stoich.

Yeah, they pretty much tell you which side of the fence your on, but not how much. Sure they are ultimately worthless in the 'fine tuning perfect fueling' dept., but are worth their price to get your ---- running and close to what is needed. I have no exp with EGT's but EF9 summed it up pretty good.
When I ghetto tuned my a6 (rising rate) with the AutoMeter Air/Fuel light show, I started on the rich side, and made back to back WOT runs. After each run I would back the rate of rise down a little bit. when the gauge would start to swing into the yellow as I neared 6000-6500 I adjusted the FMU back to its last setting. Although this setup was never dynoed, I didnt blow black smoke (rich) and got very good gas mileage. Plugs would be black, but not to the point of fouling. (ran one set for a year and no probs)

This doesnt answer your question :P , but cheap Air/Fuel meters can be useful to a degree considering their $30-$50 used cost.
