Mild steel Manifold?

Read all the faqs and tried searching to no avail.

I am VERY familiar with welding MIG (GMAW 85% argon)with mild steel. Currently our shop car holds the world record for Fastest and Quickest FWD 3S using a LARGE single turbo system I built from scratch.

But now I am taking that out and going to build a twin system so I need to make manifolds. I have 1/2" mild flanges already. I would rather use 16 gauge mild 2" tubing for ease of use/welding and cost then maybe get it coated. Is this adeqoute?

www.honda-tech.com has a big welding/fabrication section. you could post there. but be wary.. everyone over there is critical. im gonna guess they will all tell u to use SS, but i've got a ramhorn thats made out of mild. its all sch40(idk how that relates in gauge sizing)

it will work fine if you're having it coated. Ceramic coat it and call it a day.

Wholly Hell, a Ramhorm out of 40? That's gotta be heavy ;)
I have done the heat up and ben in a vice trick to get round pipe to match an oval flange port. Does this also work with schedule 40? I am worried about that since it's so thick.

I would but I don't want to have to get another tank, Currently I use 75% argon/25% carbon Dioxide mix for Mild steel GMAW.

You don't have to get another tank, that gas will still worke relatively well on SS.

i dropped it on a scale and it weighs 20lbs! the tubing was not oval bent at the flange so im going to get a stone V bit for my dreml and port it out.
