Mazda3 turbo issues
 

So, I'm attempting to turbo-charge a 2007 Mazda3. I'm running into some issues I'm hoping I can get some help with. One, I'm not 100% positive what manifold I need. Also, I'm open to suggestions for creatively running the intercooler piping. There's enough space behind the bumper but its blocked a bit on the sides. Any ideas about the manifold? Or really, any tips about this process.

when your turbo charging a n/a engine, your going to have to do some fabrication. your going to have to get creative when running intercooler piping. i used a hole saw to cut a hole through my frame... or you can relocate some things to make room. i usually work on older cars, so fabrication is a little easier. as for the manifold, there are a few different ones on ebay. if you dont want to go that route, then im sure if you do some research you'll be able to find a company that makes one for your car. research research research.

Thanks for the ideas. So far, I've found a few manifolds that should work. Cutting a hole in the chassis is a bit extreme for me, so I'm looking into side-mounted intercoolers. I'm assuming it would be very unwise to run a turbo set up without a intercooler?

Looks like that pipings going to the hardest issue. Once again, if there's anyone with first-hand exp turboing a mazda please let me know. :D

Gah, also - does anyone know what I will need to do in terms of the computer systems on the car? Is this a situation that calls for a chip? Or will the shop (or a shop) be able to tune it?

Id checkout a Mazdaspeed 3 before you go any further. Not sure about those, but I know in the past Mazda has used the same motor and just slapped a turbo kit on it for the Speed version ie. MSP.

Yeah, they've got turbo'd versions of the 2.5l and the 2.3l but sadly not the 2.0l.

well if the engine bays are set up the same way, just use parts from those cars. are they not just bigger engines? the charge piping from the 2.3 and 2.5 should fit, maybe with a little fab. your car is not made fora turbo, so your going to have to fab things, just the way it goes. for the computer, you would have to look into it with the shop. it has to be tuned different with different fuel maps
