marking the turbo

i will pull apart my turbo soon for a rebuild and the part where you mark it is unclear to me. I have already taken of the housings and rotated them before but i didnt mess with he shaft or turbines. What and where do i mark to keep this thing balanced.

Re:marking the turbo

if u dont take off the turbines it wont be out of balance i would not recomend taking off the turbines cause when i did it id made the turbo like grab when u spun it over after i put it bake together(i didnt mark anything, not knowing)if i would have put this one my car it would have self destructed. but from what i understud what u have to make is like how far to tighten the nut back on the compresor side wheel if i remember right u can tighten them down so much the turbo wont spin over

Re:marking the turbo

uhm what i do is this.

i use a center punch and make a mark on the compressor wheel where the nut is. on the alum. then i make anothe punch mark on the shaft with the threads. mark the part without any threads. good luck

dont use a marker i made that mistake once :-[

Re:marking the turbo

i marked everything and pulled it apart. The car was smoking (oil seals im guessing) but everything in there is in real good shape. There was just a wee bit of coking and the compressor seal looks like its new. there was a fair bit of shaft play side to side and some up and down. I dont see how changing all the bearings and seals would help side to side shaftplay ??? What did the oil seal in was when i first put in the turbo i didnt clock the housing and oil went out the exhaust side of the turbo :-[
