manifold design what do you think?
I have an 85 crx si that im puttin a d16a1 in and i want to mount the turbo where the battery is located so that i can point the inlet of the turbo out of the hood like the pros (the car has a full fiberglass front end) but i really dont want to spend a lot of time on a manifold with individual tubes running all the way over to the turbo. so i was thinking what if i used a log type manifold with a t3 flange on it and ran say a 3" tube over to where the t3 is with another flange that mounts to the turbo. what do ya think? any drawbacks to this?

An inefficient manifold design will outweigh any performance benefits of a foreward facing turbo. Its not worth the hassle to do all that so you can run a foreward facing turbo.
My turbo is foreward facing at a semi angle: Attachment 38759 |

Yea i see yours but i want mine out of the top of the hood, i agree i dont think it will make a bunch of a difference, why do you think that the manifold is that inefficient? im just curious is turbo exhaust pulse different from n/a exhaust pulse? does it really matter when you are using a turbo?

Re:manifold design what do you think?
I thought you were talking about a 4th gen. :-\ What I ment to say is "an inefficient design not that design" I wouldn't use 3 inch cause that wouldn't be good. If your going to do it use a max of 2.5. It is important to maintain the exhaust gas velocity as much as possible when designing a manifold for a turbo.
But yeah if you want to do it, it'll work. Lol, it worked for lovefab so it must not be that bad http://lovefab.com/Cast_Sidewinder/csw3.jpg good luck with it |
Re:manifold design what do you think?
YEA! thats almost it right there! yea i was just sayin 3" cause of the t3 flange is square..thanks for the pics that looks almost like what i was thinkin about.
