magnaflow exhaust on turbo set up

i searched through hmt few threads about mangnaflow mufflers, just seeing is any current members are still running there. i got the 12280 in the mail today for my ef. it has a 2.5 input and dual 2 out puts. its basically going to be set up sideways like the original si exhaust. my turbo down pipe is 2.5" and i am going to weld that to a 6" long 2.5 flex section that i got, then weld in my 2.5" magnaflow hi-flow cat. i am debating if i want to try to find a 2.5" resonator. i guess i ll try the exhaust system out firs without the resonator, then if tis too loud, ill add one in. i also need to find 2 exhaust tips that will slip onve the 2" piping that arent too big, kinda like the hks ef exhaust. not sure how bid the i.d. on the 03 acura tl exhaust tips are, but those would be perfect.

heres the muffler

I have 2.5 with nothing but a $20 thrush turbo muffler on it. nice and quiet but still sounds nice, I've heard those magnaflow mufflers on turbo cars, they are pretty noisy but not horrible. def. has a nice throaty sound to it.

Gut the cat, you won't regret it. You might not need to where you are, but in VA you need to have a physical cat, everyone just guts them.

Re: magnaflow exhaust on turbo set up

Just run your afr's a hair richer once you hit a higher load (or on speed density systems once you start hitting a decent boost level, maybe above 4-5 psi). It won't make as much peak power, but it'll save the cat by running cooler egt's. If you try and keep your boost afr's near 11:3 at the leanest point (above the 4-5psi mark of course) you should be ok.
As for the muffler, I had the single 2.5" inlet/outlet on my old turbo'd b16 hatch. Sounded great, very quiet (a little too quiet for me, I like to cause a ruckus >:D), nice deep tone and no rasp. I think you'll like it.

I love my magnaflow muffler. when I put the turbo on there wasn't any buzzing like every other honda with a muffler. even without the turbo it sounded good except when I got on it real hard. The best sounding exhaust out there for a honda I think. The best part about it it when you are just cruzing it doesn't drone inside the cabin. nice and quiet.

you won't need a resonator unless you're going for super sleeper status. And don't bother with buying a resonator in specific if you do, just use a cherrybomb turbo straight through thing--they are cheap as ---- and sound sweet

Cats overheat and die from overly rich conditions, not from running lean.

http://autorepair.about.com/cs/gener...a080401a_3.htm

Fouled plugs can cause unburned fuel to overheat the converter and melt the catalyst to a solid mass. If the O2 Sensor is not functioning properly it will give the ECU incorrect readings of exhaust gasses. The faulty sensor can cause an excessively rich or excessively lean condition. If the mixture is too rich, the catalyst can melt down. If the mixture is too lean, the converter is unable to convert the hydrocarbons into safe elements.

And cat's usually melt solid from lean conditions. I should know, I have quite a few collecting in my garage that are melted solid from running mid 12's to 13's afr's under high boost. And if overly rich conditions does what you say to a cat, why do most stock boosted cars run down to the 10's afr's under full boost? My Evo was a case in point when I first bought it, 19psi with a 10.4 afr. Not to mention my Wrx that had 3 cats and still ran a mid 10's to low 11's afr.

no cats, magnaflow dual 2.5in outlet w/ 3in inlet. thats what i want too.

Re: magnaflow exhaust on turbo set up

No cat is the way, but if you really have to have one for inspection/emissions purposes I'd suggest making a section of the exhaust a "test pipe" section so you can swap the cat in and out for inspection time.

stock cats burn up when a/f's are too rich(cats burn unburnt fuel more fuel more heat), aftermarket cats burn up because they are ----.

Re: magnaflow exhaust on turbo set up

No cat, cherrybomb for a resonator, cheap turbo muffler. Done.
