LS turbo setup
Hey, I'm new to this forum, sorry it's my first. Well here is my deal, I'm planning on building a custom setup for my b18b OBDII in my 96-98 Hatch. It's all in there and running great. I am trying to get a nice reliable setup capable of boosting 8-12 psi, and I'm lost as far as fuel management goes, and which turbo I should be looking for. Unfortunately, like everyone else, I'm broke, so I'm looking to spend less than $1500 at it's WORST. Here is what I'm looking at...
T3 Turbo (does internal wastegate matter for my project?)
TiAL wastegate
1G DSM BOV
Piping and Silicone couplers from jcwhitney
Oil feed/return lines from flamsnco
An intercooler, I don't know what kind... sorry
Now for fuel management, I'm shooting for the SAFC hack... and RC 440 injectors (i don't want to deal with resitor boxes)
So my questions are:
1. Should I use the internal wastegate? How can I change the spring to something I want and how can I change boost?
2. Should I use the SAFC hack? Will it be cost effective?
3. Do I have to deal with a resistor box with RC 440 injectors? Or can I just throw them in a and run -35 on the SAFC and be cool?
4. What A/R ratio should I be looking for on my t3 when I'm shopping for my b18b?

Best advice, keep reading. But I can tell you from building my Turbo LS that if you plan on 8-12 psi reliably, the Fuel management should be your biggest necessity to spend money on. The SAFC will work fine at that psi. I would go with either the AFC or something better.
As for injectors you won't be able to use the 440 RC's and just keep it at -35% and be fine. You'll end up having to do some tuning to find out what settings are best for your engine. -35% accross the board could end up being way too rich. You might want to consider getting some 450's and a resistor pack anyway because thats what the majority of us here run and could help you more with tuning.

that is very acheivable for less than 1500! i only spent 820 for kit on my ls. get an afc and dsm 450 injectors for fuel management, that will run about 250 for both. you can prolly find a good t3 for about 150, custom coach (look in the classified for his group buy) sells pipe kits with enough bends, couplers and clamps for any set up for 105 i beleive, if you do utilize the internal wastegate on the turbo, which most t3's have, you will save money by not having to buy an external, 1g dsm bov prolly about 50 bucks, and for a very nice intercooler, custom coach also sells those for about 250 or so, that's about it, you do the math. oh yeah, oil feed and drain lines about 80 bucks, also in the classifieds here! the afc and 450's are the only way you are going to run 10-12 lbs. safely and cheaply, you will need a resistor box, but i suggest using regular 10watt 10 ohm resistors from radio shack (look in the tech section on the home page for this info). prolly the most expensive thing will be a manifold depending on what you want, but very acheivable for your set price. there, i did my good deed for the day, now my fingers are sore. peace.

Well it seems like I'm having trouble finding a decently priced t3 manifold. I can't find a single revmax out there, and it seems I'd have to get a tial 35mm for that anyways, which i really wouldn't mind. I just can't find them!
