loosing boost under load?

hey guys, i been running a civic w/single cam non v-tech out of a 98 civic. running a 14b turbo. have it tunned to crome
and 10psi. when my waste gate opens at 10psi at high rpms the boost tappers down to 6 or so. no air or boost leaks.
could my exhaust be the cause? stock w/hollowed out cat....... thanks for your help ;D ;D

I'd bet dollars to donuts that your hotside is cracked on that 14b and you're losing your boost through that. The 14bs' ALWAYS crack right around the flapper and once it gets bad enough they can't hold boost for ----.

Can the cracks be welded or is it new turbo time? He has a spare turbo that also has cracked hotside we were thinking of welding the cracks and swapping it over.

They can be welded. Make sure to smooth them out though.

Or you could buy a new exhaust housing from a DSM website (I believe Forced Performance carries Mitsu exhaust housings). Better yet, switch to an Evo III Big 16G with the upgraded 7cm housing and 34mm WG flapper. You're looking at about $500-$550 new.

Another bonus is that all the new Evo III exhaust manifolds and turbo housings have a new tough ass cast that is high in nickle and resists cracking much better than the old casts (which take alot more work to port, BTW).
