loose nut on turbo shaft - compressor side - how the hell?

how does this nut keep coming loose? its come loose on me like 4 times and i tighten the piss out of it! loctite it maybe? i dont understand what could be making it come loose like this, its like the 4th time in 2.5 days :/ i take the exhause off and put a wrench on the hot side of the shaft's nut, and an 8mm on the cold side of the shafts nut and tighten them down till i cant anymore then its all cool for another few hours :/ wtf?

ya, clean it up good, let it dry and use some locktite. they are not torqued very much. do you have a lot of thread? if so, get a split washer.

make sure you are putting it back just as it originally was (the compressor wheel) so its balanced still

i'd locktite it but avoid the split washer..... correct me if i'm wrong but wouldnt that ruin the ballancing?

Re: loose nut on turbo shaft - compressor side - how the hell?

allright, well i'm pretty sure i found out the problem - i spun a bearing a while ago and didn't clean the oil lines to the turbo. one of the fittings was clogged to ---- and when i turned the car on with the fitting disconnected from the turbo but still connected to the oil line, it just dripped oil at wot. so i cleaned it and now its spraying like a ----------er. what would happen is the turbo would be spinning at 100,000 rpms or so and it would use all the oil and then keep going with no/very little oil which would cause it to sieze up momentarily and going from 100,000rpms to 0 that fast, the nut would become victim to the laws of physics - inertia, and would loosen itself from all the stopping torque the shaft had when it would sieze up. i noticed that whenever my nut would come loose, there was this weird squealing or screeching sound (siezing up?) somebody correct me if i'm wrong but does this sound right? it makes sense to me.

oh and also i got a new turbo because i fucked mine right in the ass with no oil. so we'll see if my cleaning the oil lines and fittings will help with this new turbo so this ---- dont happen again
