Re:looking for an fmic

;D ;D
Im using an intercooler off of an Audi 5000
Its a perfect size for the bumper cover
and has large inlet/outlet flanges

These are real easy to mount ,but make sure you
get the braket that holds it to the passenger side
headlight housing as the I/C has rubber mounted
studs on that side.
Assuming your going to a Pickyourpart wreckers

Re:looking for an fmic

You could also get a custom intercooler like the one homemadeturbo's Z6 hatch. I think they are being sold on ebay, but you can email the guy about one. I am sure jeff knows his email.

It fit real nice and looked pretty damn sexy behind the bumper.

Re:looking for an fmic

I got a core section that is large and will fill whole front end. Almost new barely any fins bent. about 5 1/4" lines across whatever you call those. All you have to do is weld endtanks on. 2" thick

I can ship too if Ya need.

PS - if others want I got 4 of them left.

I think this is dans Audi core on his crx.

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo/z62/fmic3.jpg

This is Adams civic, The core is just huge and barely fits, some body cutting was required.

They cost like 250 plus shipping.

how much does that audi cost and how much would it be to do those endtanks liek that

Re:looking for an fmic

so that core on the first picture came off an AUDI 5000? How about modifying those big ass ford power stroke IC's?

Jcushing 01-02-2003 10:24 AM

Re:looking for an fmic

i think thats what that second picture of the huge one was... like 30 + inches

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...b/fd005c1f.jpg

beofre i cut it

the cores are 33" X 7" and 2" wide. In order for this to fit a honda EF you must cut a lot of metal etc. But will lokk very sexy ...

Jcushing 01-02-2003 12:16 PM

Re:looking for an fmic

theres no way to cut it down any shorter?

thermal 01-02-2003 12:29 PM

Re:looking for an fmic

oh hell yeah! I thought about doing that but was not sure if it was even worth the trouble. You can come up with 2 intercooler with that Ford Power Stroke IC.

I'm sure it can be cut shorter. It's just gonna be a pain in the ass trying to put the end tanks. It'll be a whole lot easier to just cut it in half and modify the end tanks. IMO

starion, conquest, daytona, supercoupes...etc.
i went to the local pullapart today looking for an eclipse sidemount and came across a starion fmic and also a daytona fmic in black. the daytona is a little smaller, but still a good size. scour your local pullapart yards.

Shiet, it's not that easy looking for those nice looking intercoolers where i'm from. Most of the intercoolers are either broken or gone.

Anyone got one they want to sell to me.

Re:looking for an fmic

to make yer own endtanks, just measure very carefully, and cut out cardboard and use the cardboard to make a template to cut out on sheets of aluminum.
get it all welded together with a low temp welder and your in business! (for added looks, a wheel shop can polish the tanks up for cheap)

it was tougher making tanks on the audi intercooler cause the tanks arn't a perfect rectange, they kinda angle back in a diamond shape.

here is a pic of the intercooler once the endtanks were finished, damn i miss how clean it was.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...3/fcd639d3.jpg

and this is another pic similar to the one jeff posted, just showing how it sit in the bumper

i live in canada, so i can't really talk about heat soak very much, all i can say is it keeps the engine cooler than without turbo.

Hey TurboDan, what kind of sheet metal did you use and where did you get it? ANd what kind of welder did you use? And where can i find such welders?

89 CRX Si 01-04-2003 01:51 AM

Re:looking for an fmic

a tig welder will do the nicest job but im sure a mig welder can be used. a mig is justa standard exhaust etc. wire feed welder.

CivicSiR 01-04-2003 12:49 PM

Re:looking for an fmic

i seen a welder at Walmart ;D Yes! I shop at Walmart. haha. And i've seen a welder for $100. And was wondering if that is a mig welder. How do i know if it's a mig welder or not?

What kind of sheet metal did i use? And where can i get some sheet metal?

Hey 89 CRX Si, Are you still down for the trade?

89 CRX Si 01-04-2003 02:53 PM

Re:looking for an fmic

maybe only i gots no money right now for shipping costs. :(

A mig welder is wire fedd. it has a tank ok gas and a gun looking handle with a button on it. A arc welder has a stick which clamps a piece of rod in it and you touch that to the metal and it arc's and welds the rod material on it.

mig welder would be about 500 cdn and arc about 200 cdn ...

you might be able to do it with an arc welder with the right welding rods. Ill check

Re:looking for an fmic

Stick welding off lincoln electric site:

Some limits of stick welding are:

Welding thin materials (less than 18-gauge steel) may be difficult or impossible.
Marginal for welding aluminum. It takes a high degree of operator skill to weld aluminum with the stick process.
You must clean the slag off the weld.
Stick is a slower process than MIG.

Turbo-Dan 01-04-2003 06:45 PM

Re:looking for an fmic

i just went to a metal shop and got him to cut me a certain size sheet of aluminum, i dont even know what thickness, i just used what looked right. and i had a machine shop weld it on using a low temp welder.

Hell yeah! Trubo Dan's IC in awesome! How in the world can you get it to clean and shine like that. Even the fins are clean :)

89 CRX Si 01-05-2003 11:39 AM

Re:looking for an fmic

im in canada its like 35 bucks.

Shinning was probly achieved with hand sanding with all 10 grits working way to like 400 wet sand then buff on buffing wheel. about 2 hours of owrk and youll be there...

Re:looking for an fmic

I'm using the Audi 5000 IC as a front mount. My end tanks cost me $90. I had the end tanks made for me by the machine shop. They're the same cats that made my adapter plate ($20).
