I'm lookin at getting a Merkur XR4Ti as my winter car so that my 99 GSR turbo can sit around and collect dust. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with one of these cars....its $500 and needs a new oil pump....i figured why not.

yes, pick that ---- up if its in good shape. www.turboford.net is a great resource. Those things can be made nasty with just a few mods.

 

Yep, the 2.3 doesn't take much work to make good numbers. Mine had a bone stock bottom end, ported head, esslinger cam, holset turbo amd a better efi and made 420hp at the wheels.

The merkurs only downfall is a week transmision but a t5 is a easy swap.
And the rear end is weak.

But still fun.

i think i might pick it up then,...i might put some work into it eventually, but for now it is only my work/winter car...teh GSR is still my baby

 

The MERkur XR4Ti still looks very good with that double spoiler !!! at least it looks 100 X better than a thunderbird or a turbocoupe !!!

Yeah! just throw a big t3/t4 in it and crank up the boost !!
