a little help with my homemade kit (LONG)

hey guys first of all you don't know me. so here are a few old pics of my car http://boostedboogie.onlineshowoff.com and here's my setup (btw i have MOST of these parts, but not all):

T3 turbocharger .42/.48
audi intercooler 16"x8"x3" (replaced gsx SMIC which is still for sale)
87-88 rx-7 turbo denso 225lph fuel pump
87-88 rx-7 non-turbo denso maf
2.25" intercooler piping
manual boost controller
12:1 fmu
1g dsm bov
oil lines
2.75"-2.25" maf/intake coupling
custom log manifold
custom downpipe
necessary gauges
apexi s-afc
tial 35mm wastegate and hks bov in the future but that's not important.

anyways some questions about some problems that are really bugging me. first of all, intercooler mounting on my car is going to be a problem. i want it as center as possible but radiator and ac lines are in the way. my bumper reinforcement is already modified. bumper is already modified. my intercooler can be mounted only if i remove the stock hood latch system, use the hood latch mounting bracket and weld a bracket from there to the intercooler. of course i would need hood pins. do you guys recommend any other methods i can use to mount my intercooler without having to sacrifice the stock hood latch? i dont like how the hood pins affect the clean look.

next, im not sure if my maf can handle boost. the best way is to mount it between the turbo and filter, but it wont reach. so i wanted to know if any of you guys know if most stock mafs can handle up to 200whp? this maf is coming from a stock 87-88 rx-7 non turbo.

next, i can't get a hold of any flanges for my car. the b6e flange is different from the b6ze also found in the miata, so that option is gone. would it be safe to just make a flange with steel and a plasma cutter and would that mate easily to a homemade log kit with elbows and tees?

are there any MAJOR differences if i use different diameter intercooler piping example 2.25" piping from turbo to I/C, 2" piping from I/C to maf, and the stock 2.75" from maf to throttlebody? or will 2.25" piping all around the kit be sufficient up to 250whp?

and this last question is just out of curiosity. when i turn up the boost eventually (the stock b6e block can take up to 300whp) and if i mounted a type-s bov and then a dsm bov (the dsm closer to the throttlebody), i was just wondering if i can get the nice 'chirp' AND a bit of 'whoosh' with the dsm bov because i believe the type-s greddy bov can handle around 12psi at the most. i know it sounds stupid but i think it'd be interesting.

thanks again for all the help! im not expecting all the questions to be answered but it would certainly be appreciated.

i'll answer some for yah..

1. how about a different IC?

2. use 1 BOV only.. dsm can't handle much more then 12psi i beleive.

3. make a flange. a shop should be able to. or just cut off the stock one.

4. IC pipin should be ok as described.

You didn't mention larger injectors -- I would recommend them. With larger injectors you don't need a 12:1 FMU. I would use a 5:1 ramp rate along with the apexi s-AFC (this will allow you to run more boost) A 12:1 ramp rate will very quickly overwelm your fuel pump (its flow rate will drop dramatically when forced to pump to +100psi).

oops i forgot to mention that i have protege lx 90-94 injectors/ecu and an rx-7 turbo fuel pump. i dont plan on installing the afc for a while so i want to use the fmu as the fuel management w/ the injectors.

Do the A'pexi AFC units work well on MAF equipped cars? Ive only seen them used in conjunction with MAP sensors, How do you go about tapping into that then?

they will have a different wiring diagram and you set the sensor type on the afc different

so do you think the safc, upgraded maf, upgraded injectors and rx-7 turbo fuel pump would be good for 8psi? also what do you guys suggest for management up in high boost around 13-15... this same setup? i want to try and stay away from standalone engine management.

How big are the injectors you have ?

the Ic piping sizes will be fine.

The Apexi AFC works just as well on MAF cars.

I don't know about mazda Mafs, but the GM ( LS-1, camaro, corvette ) MAFs can handle 30+Psi. Mounting the Maf between the throttle body and turbo using a "blow-through" setup will give you the most accrate readings, but that's only if the mazda mafs can hanle boost.

Just as long as the injectors that fit this engine are "top-feed" you can make any sized/cc injectors work ( IE: DSM 450ccs or 310cc injectors ).
bye bye, dinner is done..!!!
