lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

a performance shop/engine swapper here in miami told me if my car is boosted a lightened flywheel will make my car over rev and it was dangerous for a boosted car to have a liughtened flywheel. he said he would'nt even sell me one if it was gonna go in my car. what difference do you feel in the car w/lightened flywheel as far as rpm speed and drivability? i was looking at a 7.5-8.5pd fidanza flywheel
for my 10psi 250whp b16 99'civic si.

i have a fidanza from endyn and i love it...well now that im boosted it kinda sucks when i launch..causde it bogs a bit..but i guess ill just have to launch at a higher RPM...

Re:lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

or use launch control to build boost in standstill, I can get 15psi before I drop the clutch :)

Re:lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

how could you get any psi at all if your car is stil in neautral?

Re:lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

spark retard and round robin spark cut to keep the rpms down.

5.5LB flywheel in the built zc, 8.0lb flywheel on my girls h22, and all my other cars had lightened factory flywheels. I think people who say they hurt performance are retarded. Less rotational mass ownz you.

Over revving hahahaha...what a retard..Why do you have a rev limiter??

I'm actually using MegaSquirt'N'Spark with a few modifications.
I beleive Uberdata has a feature like this called full-throttle-launch.

I had one in my integra and it was a bitch to get it to idle right. Technically, if you take rotating mass away you loose torque but the all around performance benefits of a lighweight everything outweighs it.

I went back and forth from a lightened flywheel to a stocker. I've noticed a huge difference. Especially trying to chirp the tires. YOu'll notice the less rotating mass quite quickly.

If I were you I'd go to a different engine builder.

the guy says he'll charge $200 to install it. cheap price there and they do good work, swaps..etc. i'm sure he'll do it if i wanted him to.

Re:lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

The flywheel just has to be strong enough to take the forces of sudden acceleration. People die every year when flywheels explode, mostly when people lighten stock flywheels improperly I think. There is a reason to why NHRA mandates a scattershield or a scatterproof bellhousing on 11 second cars IIRC.

Re:lightened flywheels...who has had boosted experiences w/them?

i have a fidanza 6.5lb in my d15b (vtec) on 9psi. car is disgusting fast, and the clutch grabs incredibly hard. it is an aluminum flywheel and has taken a BEATING from my days. i have taken my motor to the 'H' on engine temp because my radiator fan stopped working.

one problem i have is that on hot ass days when i let the car out of gear while driving the rpms drop really quick and the car will turn off her and there. im thinking about using a stock one again. it is a bit to sensitive to south florida temps. i did make 5whp with it all motor :).
