Kit or Homemade
I know this is probobly the wrong question to ask here, but I do want some honest oppinions.
I currently have a EG CX with a VX motor. Later this year I want to swap out the crazzy Z1 and swap in a D16Z6. Not only that but I want boost. My price range is around $4000 for the swap and turbo setup. I have been looking into the edelbrock kit and it seems good. It comes with evertyhing, and should put me into the 13's (200-220hp). I understand it would be cheaper to go Homemade, but is it worth it? The reason I ask is because it seems as ig spending the extra money meen I don't have to mess with tunning, parts not fitting, and thins going wrong. The kit has performed and put out power with no problems time after time, while I see so many people having problems with being homemade. I am not new to turbos, I had an Eclipse GSX before my civic (money issues caused me to trade). So I know about turbos, how they work, etc. The one thing I'm new to is tunning. I don't much understand it, and I'm not sure if I' be good at it.
So would it be better for me to buy a kit, or build one? Will a homemade one be as reliable as a kit? I know there are manty options to tune, uberdata, hondata, crome, etc etc... but can you tune safely with a vafc, or something of that matter? I need something easy to tune it. My goals are around 200hp on the stock motor with the option to boost higher.
I'm ready to be flamed, but go easy on me.

There are a few other reasons other than it's cheaper.
For the same amount of money (like 2,500 or whatever) that you spend on a kit, you can get much better parts... you just have to seek out the deals. If you don't know what you're doing, buy a kit. If you have done your research, you know what to buy... you would be an idiot to buy a kit.
List out everything that a "kit" gives you. Make up a new list with really good parts (not over the top...) and you will be buying more parts for the same amount of money.
I assure you that you will learn a lot more about FI by piecing it together yourself. It will take you longer, but you'll be happier with your setup.
Kits to me are for people who don't want to put the time into getting their parts and have money to waste. And, yes, of course this site will be biased, but for good reasons (though most people will just tell you to eat ---- and not explain why it's better).

2)Can potentially be more reliable if you arent a fucktard with an FMU
3)Better chance of hitting your power goals, and better expandability when you get bored.
4)Individuality. Any ***'s mom can buy them a Greddy kit and they can join the rest of the greddy kit owners in their fagotry of all making the exact same not so impressive power. Or you can customize your own kit and get out what u put in.
But this wont work for you, cus you're a queerbag. You're better off at Turbod16.com , I hear they're the kewlest!
Homemade is the only way for me. You need to make up your own mind though cause if your not willing to put in some serious time, work and possibly $$$ then I would stick with a kit. Either way, at least you wont be n/a

Thanks for all that are helping so far.
My problem is this isn't a side project, this is my daily driven car, so if it goes down, me getting to school/work would be a big problem.
just build the engine and use HMT kit - it will be much more reliable than stock engine with expensive kit on.
you can hit 300hp this way at your budget level, all assuming good tune what is a must no matter if you are using kit or HMT - tune is the key for power/reliability not kits brand.
Kits are not complete, you will always be missing something.
Besides there is one more thing which matters for me at least - MADE BY ME
