Default Kindof a noob question but ...

why have i never seen a vertically mounted turbo?

does it have something to do with oil feed and the compressor blades / exhaust blades / bearings and ----?

just curious... trying to expand my knowledge.

oil feeding does have everything to do with placement of the turbo (well the oil return line that is).

But I don't exactly know what you mean by "vertically mounted turbo" please specify and I will get you a more direct answer

i mean instead of the turbo being mounted paralleling the motor, having it mounted perpendicular to the motor.

oh, i gotcha. usually on 4 cylinders, no, it's always parellel.

The space issue is the major concern in the setups, even with North-South mounted 4 bangers it's stills setup the same way.

Now if it's an all out custom manifold design, then things can get creative. If engine bay space is close to unlimited then you can go with whatever you think is the best. See my signature pic for an idea of a nice engine bay to work in, bad part is the truck is pretty high off the ground.. so I just jump inside of the engine bay whenever I'm doing any work.

It's about what works best for your setup, look hard enough and you will see turbos mounted in every direction.

They probably have special center sections that are made by eskimos.
