Just had the car on the rollers

First time for the turbo engine on the rollers. It a UK 2.0 SOHC Ford, similar to the 2.3SOHC fitted to the Mustang and the XR4Ti. In standard EFi form the engine put out 115bhp. I fitted a Garrett T3 and set the boost for 7psi for now.
On the Dyno one of the runs showed 162bhp but due to me asking the operator to only run to 5500rpm the power had not peaked. So I let them go for it. The average came out at 144bhp.
Anyway the thing that got me was the torque curve. From 4000rpm it just flatlines ? and the power curve still goes up?
I have fitted an ignition retarder which cuts in at about 3 to 4psi, max boost is 7psi. The cutin point is at about 4000rpm which retards the ignition 6 deg. Could it be this that flaterns the torque off?
I set the retard to limit pinking at 5000 to 5500rpm, due to the limited tunning of the standard ECU.
Any ideas??

torque isn't gonna climb like hp does, thats perfectly normal.

Them people at well lane are absolute dickcheeses, suposed to be one of the top tuners in England and they ---- thereselves when they saw my turbo civic!

They didn't know how to tune a VAFC, they didnt even want to learn, after a expensive power run i drove home the 40 miles pissed off because they wouldnt touch it!

horsepower is a function of torque.

torque plus RPMs /5252 = horsepower.

a flat torque curve is a good thing.

The power runs were part of a magazine shoot out for Fast Ford. But at £30 for the 4 runs it would have been better to have gone to my local tunners and had 1 hours worth of set up for £48. They didn't even check the exhaust gas which is what i wanted to find out, as i haven't had it setup and don't know if its running lean. And it was a 150mile round trip as well :-\

With my stock 2.0 8 valve CVH at 8psi (with a smaller turbo then you) I made 170whp and 170tq. I did'nt pull any timing at all, just filled up with 92-93 octane. I think you should do the same, you'll gain some power.

Re: Just had the car on the rollers

I had 97 octane in with some octane booster as well. I didn't want to hole a piston.
When it was run up there was no indication of detonation at all. I was just being too carefull.
I haven't had it on the road with all the changes yet. Hope to have it out tomorrow for a blast >:D
