hey everyone, im new but im not mentally retarded.

im in the process of piecing together a turbo kit for my 95 civic LX four door with the d15b7. i know what im doing and im doing it as cheaply as possible, and im well underway with what i have right now parts wise. im going to run the STD/HF manifold with an adaptor plate and either the IHI-RHb5 (im guessing off of a probe or 626) or the TDO4 mitsu turbo. I have both turbos sitting in front of me so the question is not "which one should i go out and find/buy." both turbo's are in good shape, no shaft/end play in either turbo whatsoever, and the IHI just has the all so common hairline crack in the cast around the wastegate flapper but should not affect things at all.

the d15b7 engine will remain stock with just over 160,000 miles, and as i said ill be running the std/hf mani with adaptor plate, a 13" X 7" X 2.5" intercooler (donor car unknown...possibly a saab or something...big though and should support a good deal of hp). ill also be running a hack, either s-afc or v-afc, whichever i can find cheaper. dsm 450's with resistor box, and dsm 1g bov, probably a mix of aluminum/ steel/ possibly pvc charge piping...just whatever i can find that works and probably open downpipe for a while until i get sick of the noise.

as for goals...i have none. i have a 97 base prelude that is turbo (18G/ precision ic/ hondata/ etc.) and this civic is my beater. im just sick of it being bone stock. i dont care if it looks sleeper or not, i just cant stand driving a car thats not boosted. maybe id optimistically like to see some 13's but if not then whatever. the car will be gutted soon also just because i dont use the backseat and well its my beater, and i want it to be gutted. so the overall question is which turbo should i use? id like to run somewhere around 10 lbs of boost and id like for whatever turbo that i use to spool well up to the around 6200 (or whatever) redline. lag doesnt bother me either. let me know what i should do or if you need more specs on the turbos or the car. thanks for your advice in advance and thanks to HMT.com for hooking me up with the great info for the past few years...im just now getting into the forums here obviously.

ive got a b7 turbo and just dont expect anything over 200-220 hps....no more than 9psi some say 8 rods sucks ass...id go with the 14b...spools on mine at around 2800 rpms....and pulls till redline...very nice...

the mitsu turbo that i have is a bit smaller than the 14b, most people refer to it as the TD04...i know that is just the housing but that is what ive heard it called. after cleaning both of the turbos up last night i think im leaning towards using the TD04. yeah im definately not planning on ever seeing much over 200 hp if that, especially with only running the hack for engine management...

Both turbos you got are pretty much the same size so use whatever is in better condition. Don't even bother with the afc, just get your p06 ecu chipped and run uberdata. Much cheaper and way more effective than the efc.

as far as running uberdata, i have the ability to chip my ecu, but i dont have a rom burner, wideband o2 or a laptop...id love to learn how to do all this though and i feel like im capable enough. the shop i was planning on having tune the system hates uberdata...not sure why but i know that they are advocates of hondata. thats why im running hondata on my prelude (nice car). if theres an alternative that im missing let me know.

also, i think that im going to pick up a z6 head this week for $100. so vtec power may be involved soon also...

for tuning. i'd toss out the vafc or safc idea. i was going to do that at first. but chipping your ECU and run uberdata or chrome would be alot better and cheaper too.

just chip your ECU. look around the site there should be someone around your area that knows how tune and they should help you out..

Even with an AFC you still want a wideband. Guys tend to think that grabbing settings of the net is good enough, but many motors have been blown in this respect. The reason why shops don't like Uberdata is because it's free. They had to pay for the programming to do hondadata and want to make there money off of it and to endorse it with the possibility of you paying the REDICULUS mark up to them.

The cost of aqn AFC is only slightly less then a cheap laptop, cheap burner. and your still should get a WBo2 with either.
