Junkyard Turbo Pics and Q's

hey guys.. new member here.. lookin for some advice..

I've got a D16a9 (similar to ZC) in my 93 Del Sol (Transtop and rare green color)

I picked up a Pair of Ball bearing IHI Turbo's there from a low KM JDM Twin Turbo Subaru Legacy Zero shaft play and they feel real smooth when they spin

the one on the Left is a RHF4 VF13
the one on the right is a RHF4 VF14

they have a shared Waste gate vacuume line and the the exhaust side of the blades seem to be the same, but the compressor side seems to be different.. the angle at which the blades "slice" are diff, one seems flatter then the other...

The exhaust "port" on the left turbo is a little larger then the one on the right as well....

as u can see the Flange to bolt to a manifold is completely wack but i think they can be worked with...

basically i'm trying to decide which turbo to go with...

Left or Right?

i'm looking to make about 200hp on stock internals and retain my AC...
the turbo's are smaller then a T-25... but are apparently comparable to a TD-05 (non big 16 of course)

I'm looking for quick spool up more autoX style...

i couldn't find much info on these turbo's on the net either...

would 10ish Psi and AFC with 450 CC's and MSI to retard the ignition be enough on 91 octane pump gas? only Tuning will be Ass dyno tuning tho =(

i've heard the ZC's love boost?

does this have potential or should a scrap it?

Will i over rev these little turbo's before redline?

also.. i live in a desert climate... it hits 100% humidity and 45*C during the day... if i use water injection on the intercooler during the day would it be enough? or am i gonna grenade the engine?

They look nice ;)
Good Find.
I would use a bigger one though:
I wanna get a Garrett T3/T04E Hybrid Turbo 48 a/r and a 46 trim. But I am also shooting for 300hp for my ZC. ;D

If you decide those are to small e-mail me I have a 12a starion slightly larger than a 14b and T-25 and a airesearch T-3 42/48 turbo that I will trade with some doe for those ihi's. And your question the ihi's are very small and will top out quickly for better top-end it is better to go with a T-3 or T-25 the ihi's are better for low end response also 10 psi on a stock bottom end is pushing it but if you use water injection into your motor it will lessen a chance of detonation. yes the isi's will top out before redline if you are running 10.

The conquest/starion TD05-12a isn't bigger than a TD05H-14B..

I'd just use the bigger of the two. 200Hp isn't outta those turbos range.

autoX-ing power is much different than drag racing kinda power. Being that they are ball-bearing, they will both spool super fast ( even is they weren't ball-bearing they would still come on real fast ).

Because of your climate, I'd say your going to need to get a pretty good Intercooler.

With a larger exhuast, good intercooler, and 10-12psi 200hp should be a problem at all, but they won't make more than 250hp without A LOT of work ...

that turbo sits kinda low bro. if your gonna use that manifold. but turbo's look good though. but a really odd flange.

Re:Junkyard Turbo Pics and Q's

well i heard the AFC hack is only good till 10psi anyhow..

because these turbo's worked together i figure their internal wastegates are set really low (i'm guessin ballpark 4.5-5)
so i'll start with the internal waste gate see how she performs etc and then boost it higher by either bending the actuator or getting an MBC...

as for the turbo sitting low.. those are my 4-2-1 headers i have on my car now. i was just holding it there to show relative size and placement, i don't plan on butchering them :P

another reason why i chose small turbos was to fill in the "void" of the low end of the honda... so that u don't have to rev the piss outta the engine to make som go power...

I'm guess (correct me if i'm wrong) the turbo's will spool aroudn 2,000 and reach full boost by 2,500 or so... so basically instead of power starting after 4-5k... it'll be there from 2k :)

as for "get a good intercooler" define good? as in on par with a starion size for example? or bigger?

thanx for the comments guys

Re:Junkyard Turbo Pics and Q's

The starion is a good size intercooler but its not internally finned ( better flow, less cooling ). I'm sure any of the custom coach intercoolers would be fine for 10-12psi.

BTW I've run 13psi on the hack for a few months, and never got a CEL...

Your spool "expectations" are correct, maybe even a little faster than you think.
