Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

this manifold started in my basement. i hacked up a stock manifold for the flange, and mig welded a bunch of 1.5" sched 10 els and tees together. about 5 hours of fab time and $150 later, i learned the hard way that the bolts for the manifold wont clear the weld around the 1.5" els. around the same time bryson PMed me w/ thoughts of a 1.25" sched 40 log manifold. so i sent him mine for some fitment tests, and with alot of late nights IMing each other, we decided that using 1.25" for the 6 main runners, and stepping up to the 1.5" for the els and the tees in the log. bryson had the great idea of using the box tubing to offset the outlet flange. his great fabbing ability and tig skill finished this manifold up with excelent quality. once i get it all tested on my stroker motor they will be forsale, and I'm proud to say that I will be the first official retailer of the manifolds, and Rock Kustoms will be offering complete (but 100% custom) kits based off of bryson's manifolds. the kits will be using megasquirt II v3.0 that we will be assembling, t3 and t3/t4 turbos, accel injectors and much more. I have no idea on pricing, and im not a vendor yet so i cant say much more. anyway heres the pics.

nice work, that flange looks goofy :P

tealcherokee 02-18-2007 02:53 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

the head flange? thats how the factory ones are, kinda stupid, only 2 bolt holes, the other 8 spots share bolts w/ the intake, and are clamped on w/ washers lol

That must flow like ass. Looks great though.

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

Let him explain to you why it doesnt need to flow for ----.

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

thats the most ridiculous turbo manifold ive ever seen in my life! I like it ;)

ps- mig welds?

tealcherokee 02-18-2007 04:23 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

thats all tig welded by bryson

sohcpwr 02-18-2007 04:52 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

thats what i thought.. looked like in your first post you said it was mig welded.

tealcherokee 02-18-2007 04:54 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

nope, our first prototype i threw together w/ a mig to safe time because we knew it was just for fit testing ;)

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

Damn that was what I was thinking of how to build a log mani for my Z. I kid you not. EXACTLY :S If you don't end up using that I'd for some strange reason i'd take it of your hands.

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

its being used for sure, and theyre avail for sale.

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

whats the engine code for the straight six jeep motor? hot manifold btw

tealcherokee 02-18-2007 09:51 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

as far as i know jeeps dont have engine codes. its just a 4.0 renix 87-90, 4.0 HO obdI 91-95, 4.0 obdII 96-99, and 4.0 obdII cali emissions 00-01 (and newer for jeeps other than the cherokees)

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

I figured this, seems like only imported motors use codes, ford doesn't have "codes" persay either. Thanks though man.

tealcherokee 02-18-2007 10:33 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

thats because import car manufactors have like 6 of the same engine per year, at least VW does, i couldnt stand that when i was working there

flange does look strange but hay, if it works who cares >:D

It will be interesting to see how much power you can make on one of those 4.0s.

pistons installed backwards
ported head, big valves, roller rockers (on the way)
arp head studs
lots of other little things

looking for a nv4500 out of a ram, d44 rear with a sterling 10.25 being built on the side for when the 44 implodes

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

well, i got a hy30, all well and good

go home

compressor hits the block, so now i gotta hack into the manifold lol....revsion 400000 >:D

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

why installed backwards?

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

nice welds, looks like its going to be a beast. although you are going to severely hinder flow with that design...

installed backwards????

no the flange is pointed to far down so the compressor hits the block

I thought he mocked that up in the truck?

tealcherokee 02-24-2007 08:01 AM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

he did, but he had a dinky t3, then raised the mount w/o checking, the hy30 hits alot tho, he should have seen it :(

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

Never seen an HY30, didn't know they made such a beast. Post pictures.

BTW, did you say you were running Jeepdata?

quite possibly its an hy35? it looks exactally like one i had off a 12v 5.9 cummins that was an hy30w (im assuming the w is for internal wastegate)

as far as jeep data, never heard of it

How much does one go for?

Teal Cherokee has since given up on his turbo Jeep and I believe he sold off all the parts.

did he already sell the manifold?

SpankedYA! 07-28-2007 07:19 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

Ask him. BTW the manifold was a piece of ---- and never fit right.

Tom-Guy 07-28-2007 07:26 PM

Re: Jeep 4.0L turbo manifolds complete

I'm not surprised. Counterflow heads with that shared bolt flange ---- were prone to leaking anyway.
