intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.

anyone know what they used for the main pipe section (guess i could call it a collector but use that term loosely). anyone use one of these? mark |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
no, I dont think anyone has used any of these, but I will let you know that that thing will flow about as good as a cardboard box and get really hot too
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
it looks like he just used steel square box tubing for the "collector" part...
I am sure it would work fine, although I dont like the design, all the gasses are pushed into the square plenum then they will find there way to the turbo as the path of least resistance, but the cylinder on the left has to push its way past all the rest of the gas... at least on the standard weld el manifold the gasses are directed a little bit towards where they need to go... |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
that looks like a real homemade manifold, it looks so easy to make. but it seems like it will be too restrictive.
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
$330 paperweight. That's the worst design I've ever seen in my life......that manifold is something they would've used in 1910.
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
carefull what you say, a memeber of this board HAS used a manifold simualr too that ::) i wont name names, he will let him self be known if he wants...
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
I'm not trying to be a dick. just being honest...terrible design.
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
i'll agree it doesn't appear to be a great design... but this is something i'd have no problems fabbing at home... could prob use a round pipe instead of the square and that would make it more effective... but then again working w/ round piping isn't near as simple for drilling.
i'm sure i could do the weld-el type manifold also... but that has a lot more prep work that has to be done. mark |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
The lowest I'd go is weld-els. The exhaust manifold design is WAY more important than a lot of people make it seem. I can't believe how many people put an external wastegate that only vents from the #1 cylinder. it's crazy!
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
This is definitely one bad @$$ manifold!!! think about what your waste gate is doing.. why the ---- would you put it on just one runner??? i guess if your just selling them and not using them on your own car or something. |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
Î'm gonna start making charge pipes out of rolled up aluminum foil and sell then on Ebay....they "reject" heat...LOL
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
I take shits that look similar to that log ;)

Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
a memeber of this board HAS used a manifold simualr too that i wont name names Made with what was around the garage w/ a Jiggsaw, grinder, drill, and rental welder. 100% of the fab credit goes to my brother. I just made dumb jokes and blew smoke in his face ;) Circa 99' pics.... A V8 buddy didnt think it would work. Left his mark... http://a0.cpimg.com/image/14/74/9296...-028001E0-.jpg Turbo/mani test fit: http://a5.cpimg.com/image/83/98/9297...-028001E0-.jpg Getting....ummm....broke-in http://a6.cpimg.com/image/1A/74/9296...-028001E0-.jpg I love digging up old pics. Heres the finished homebrew victory beer on the mani shot. http://a5.cpimg.com/image/8D/99/9297...-028001E0-.jpg One more...my Thunderbird IC before it hatched into the two core bastard it is now. http://a1.cpimg.com/image/1F/74/9296...-028001E0-.jpg Yeah, the square log manifolds blow...duhhhh, but it worked, for 2 years of daily panty tearing. God I wish I knew what the HF mani looked like then. We tried to find a VX? mani the day before cause' we knew it terminated up high, but whatever. Good times. |

Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
leed... what size square piping was that you used? how thick was it? what material was it? about how much did that bit cost?
thanks mark |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
hahaha
leed did you use the lincoln weldpak 100 from home depot? how thick are your pieces? mustve taken a lot of weld/grind/weld/grind? at least yours has chamfered sides.. that ebay one looks like a winner, and for 330$ lol |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
Log manifolds are constant pressure designs.
Tubular manifolds are constant flow designs. Square/box or tubular weld el log style... neither one flows. They aren't designed to, they are designed to be a plenum for building pressure. The ubiquitous constant pressure (log) manifold is why traditional turbo theory goes for wide LSA and no overlap in camshaft design. Exhaust reversion is a bitch. If you use a tubular manifold and peaky turbo like Todd/HiTech/FFGeoff/Kooks/Tinker/blahblahblah where flow is promoted and TIP (turbine inlet pressure) from the restriction that the turbine wheel represents is minimized, then a turbo engine starts acting strangely like a NA engine, and likes some overlap and a narrower LSA. The next log manifold I make, I'm not playing around with a bunch of stupid expensive schedule 40 els. I'm reaching right for the 14 gauge 1"X2" RHS mild steel and not even worrying about runners. |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
Good points. Nice way to word it.

Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
LSA? What does it all mean!!!!!! :'(
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
LSA = Lobe Separation Angle or number of deg between the intake and exhaust lobe centerlines on a cam
and RHS is Rectangular Hollow Section of steel usually |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
Aaaah thanks! Now I can go back to my happy place. ;D
|
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
why do you guys use sced 40 anyways? it's a bit thick isn't it?
you could get away with sced20 without worry, you'd also lose a few lb's weight too. |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
Zexrex... are you a beautiful redhead with succulent tits? Do you want to have some kids?
If you're a guy (yuck), do you have a sister (yum)? |
Re:intresting and simple manifold on ebay... questions about it.
LOL! Oh ---- that was funny! I need a nap. ;D
