Internal Wastegate bypass?

Hey guys this is my first post plus first turbo build lol.

I'm going to be runing a Holset HX35 on my 3400v6 Z24, forged pistons during winter hopefully, aswell as 3500 valves and some compcam 26915 springs, P&P'd heads, lim, uim, and possibly a few more things lol, but my question is, I'd like to run a 38mm Tial wastegate, is it possible to just weld the internal wastegate solid, and run my external one? I am also going to be getting a Greddy Type S BOV hopefully, if any could let me know on the wastegate that would be awesome though, thanks! If anyone is curious I'll be running Megasquirt V2.2 for my engine management!

i don't see why that wouldn't work. give it a try and let us know. I'm sure someone has done that before

turbof22a 06-30-2009 01:35 AM

yes it has been done millions of times. why wouldn't it work?

MacNeil 06-30-2009 03:05 PM

I'd never reallly worked with any turbos before, I searched after I posted and came up with some information, but wanted to be double sure before I hit it wit ha welder lol

Thanks for the info :D

Like the others have said, you shouldn't have a problem doing that.

Sweeet! thanks alot guys, looks like I'll be hitting her tomorrow then

instead of welding the turbo why not check to see if there is a block off plate available for your turbo. i know that ATP sells flanges that will cover the opening of the internal wastegate and have a Vband to hook up your down pipe to. its not all that much. i would look into that first.

MacNeil 07-05-2009 04:16 PM

Yeah I found one on ebay that blocks it off and has a set screw that holds the flange shut, decided to take that route instead.

ya you can weld or tack it or u can make a bracket to hold it closed..

like he said, ebay should be cheap
