internal to external wastegate
2 Attachment(s)
ok so i must be misunderstanding how you change an internal wastegate to an external wastegate. I have a 5 bolt exhaust with a flapper for an internal wasteagate, i also just put on an external wastegate cause i wanted to get rid of the internal one. i took the internal wastegate off so i am just left with the little flapper thing and a extra spring to hold the wastegate flapper shut. well i didnt mess around with it for a while until i noticed that i wasnt getting boost until like 4500-5k, when i used to start getting boost at 2500rpms. so what i did was take off the spring that was holding the internal wastegate flapper and chained it up so it was basically fully shut. well i took it for a test run and now i am not getting any boost, well maybe 2psi but at 7000rpms!!! i thought that when you changed from an internal wastegate to an external, that you had to weld that little flapper shut. and i basically did that but now i am not getting any boost??? wtf is goin on?
i have some pictures but the camera blows and they are kinda blurry. they are just showing that i chained it up to the manifold brace Attachment 26328 Attachment 26329 |
Re: internal to external wastegate
You understand correctly, but you are just ------- something up.
Do it the right way and get a block off plate. |
Re: internal to external wastegate
how could i be ------- something up??? why is the spring working better than when I block it off?

Re: internal to external wastegate
sounds right.
only issues would be vacuum line to ext. wg or arm for flapper being held the wrong way. but that's so simple it's a given. or. the diaphragm in the ext. wg it torn. just get 5bolt flange w/blockoff. good luck |
Re: internal to external wastegate
i have the side wastegate nipple routing to the Mboost controller. and the top nipple is bleeding into the atmosphere.

Re: internal to external wastegate
I would rule out the mbc first.
you have the black plastic mbc? |
Re: internal to external wastegate
im betting youre just not holding it all the way shut....weld it
|
Re: internal to external wastegate
ya but the spring didnt hold it tight all the way either and i got like 10psi more with the spring and no wastegate actuator arm. i am ------- lost!!! :S

Re: internal to external wastegate
because the spring actually had pressure up against it...im betting that chain setup you rigged on there is leaving a gap. Just weld it or find some other way to securely shut it, or get a blockoff flange.

Re: internal to external wastegate
stop being a ----- and weld it shut!!! you obviously are not getting a tight enough seal so just weld it up and be done
