Intercooler Question

I am now tired of my air to water setup because t is a constant pain in my ass. It is never consistent air temps and it eats bags of ice like no other.

My question is how much power can be made on those big ebay intercoolers. The 3 inch in and three inch out ones.

^^ i'm with this guy. I have personally seen 2 cars make 800whp+ on thoes "godspeed" coolers. the large ones 31"x11.75"x4" (core 24"x11.75"x4") 3" inlet/outlet .

there is a vendor on here that has them for like $250 or $260 shipped

but if u want to be safe go with Precision, even the 750hp core is mildly rated, and will support well over 800whp. They go for about $400-$420 shipped

and Precision also makes a 825hp core cooler for about $550 ;D. Thats what i went with. I'm not a big Water-Air fan.

Re: Intercooler Question

if 200 more hp on an intercooler is worth the extra 20hp that you probably won't feel.. is it worth it?

Re: Intercooler Question

A guy local has one and I am going to trade some wrench time for it.

IMO, Air to water sucks the big one. I wish I would have never put that crap on my car. I bet I have spent 200 dollars on ice and drove the car 20 times. Your constantly having to fill it, drain it, fill it, drain it, .... I strongly recommend to anyone that wants to have any sense of streetablity left in their car to not do an ATW setup.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Intercooler Question

I know what your saying, I will be using an ATW setup, UNLESS I can get some sort of IC with a ducting setup but I'm unsure where to draw the air from. but in an MR2, its difficult to get clean air to cool the charge with. And I'm not riggin up some BS scoop to look all ghetto.

Re: Intercooler Question

Give your air/water a chance... Get a fan on the HE, bigger HE, wrap it if its in the engine bay, look at your pump, check for air bubbles (they are a bitch to get out).

Every setup I have done, I have always preferred the air/water.

I did, It was working correctly, just not what I want to deal with anymore.

Plus it might give me a reason to do a HMT top mount on my ef. Do any of you guys have some pictures of a topmount B series for an ef?

The only advantage an air to water has over your basic runofthemill front mount is the ability to use ice as a heat transfer medium. In the end your really just making hot water instead of making hot air. Unless you have a drag car or some sort of setup that cant get cool air to the intercooler, an air-to-air is more cost effective and easier to maintain.

Your really only cooling with the first 4" or so of the intercooler, the rest just acts as a heat sink. So find the one with the smoothest transitions in the endtanks and move on.

Re: Intercooler Question

Thanks but there is a local guy that has one I am going to trade some wrech time for. Im in college so Im broke. Gotta love the bartering system.

I might however hit you up about 2 of your 38mm wastegates. Or do you offer any wastegates bigger than 38 so I can just run one.

Re: Intercooler Question

I have 4-bolt 40,50,and 60mm wastegates. They go up around $20 for each 10mm in size. I'm not near my price list right now, but if you are interested I will give you prices and psi levels.
