intercooler mounted in the engine bay

hi guys
has anyone mounted there intercooler in the engine bay? what were the results like? I was thinking of mounting 12v fans or taking a link off the window washers to cool the IC down.
cheers

i dont think this would be effective.... considering the heat from the engine wold just defeat the purpose of having the IC in the first place... If you do do it keep it as far away from the engine as possible... and mount it where the stock airbox would have been... and mold a vent on your hood so it sucks in cold air.... but why not just front mount it... that kinda works best... unless you have no space whatsoever....

i agree..but look at WRX's...buttt there not very affective.so yea...use a front mount

cheers guys, i'll test it out anyway then let you know. I'll prob end up front mounting ... just need a decent looking IC

I can't sense if you're joking or not..

WRX intercooler systems are very effective. The aerodynamics of the front end force the air up over the hood. The scoop, then grabs that air and forces it directly onto the intercooler. What's so uneffective about it?

As for mounting the IC in the stock airbox place.. I did that. It' sOK, gets the job done. But, you will run cooler temps from a scoop or a front mount.

the WRX intercooler is good for what it is intended, track use. As long as air is flowing thru it, is it effective. Now, when you are drag racing and just sitting motionless, of course you will get heatsoak from the engine.

i dont think its effective at all since people always put on front mounts...the fins are facing up, while the air is moving more front to back and its right on top of the motor

Re:intercooler mounted in the engine bay

That's what the scoop is for.. It directs the air right on the intercooler, thus, flowing the air through the fins, rather than over them. There is even a seal so that is pushes the air through the intercooler..

bottom line,
wrx's topmount IC isnt as effective as a FMIC,

it may be effective, just not AS effective.

why do you think all the wrx guys upgrade to FMIC !?! HMM!?

what about psi drop from all the extra piping and the larger IC? If you are using a stock turbo, you have to worry about it more.
