Interchangeable compressor wheels

I have a .42 .48 volvo turbo with minor shaft play and no oil leaks, and have a nissan a/r .60 with reasonable shaft play.

My question are if i can just put the compressor wheel and backplate from the nissan into the volvo to have a a/r .60 with no leaks.

Re: Interchangeable compressor wheels

  • Depending on the year of manufacture, both of these turbos can be either static or dynamic seal, which backplates are not interchangeable.
  • You can't swap just backplate &wheel from the nissan because the 50trim volvo cover is bored 1.8 mm too small fo the 60 trim wheel.
  • if you keep the volvo cover, you will remain 0.42 a/r. even if you fit a larger wheel in it
  • What kind of leak are you talking about?

1) I was thinking in buy an ebay rebuild kit, and rebuild the $10 dollar a/r .60 nissan turbo.

2) But chinese t3/t4 turbos are around 130-150 new.

What option are the best for reliability?
