Default Intake question

93 DelSolSI (D16Z6), 111K mi, original owner. This is my 1st turbo. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I had a shop slap together a system for me. That was my 1st mistake.
Using a 2nd generation Mitsubishi turbo, has 14 in the model No. Screwed up the piston rings by not coming to this site first. Detonation @ 8lbs did the damage. removed the Cat & replaced it w/ a used 2X resonator system. Now the max boost w VTEC engaged is 9.5 lbs. Right now I'm having the engine rebuilt w/ 9:1 forged pistons & rings, new head gasket & Greddy E-manage.
-----------------------------------------------------------
This is as stupid as questions get. The shop that did the work says that I don't need an intake on the turbo inlet. Being my 1st turbo app. I'm having a hard time swallowing that. Is this true for a daily driver.

I would suggest putting something there...lol i mean looking around here you see it all even just mesh covering over it. I suggest you put on an intake hose/pipe and a good air filter and run it to where ever you will probably avoid the most engine heat.
