Installing FMU

I am putting together a turbo kit for my 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ with a 2.5L 4 cyl motor. I am going to upgrade the injectors and use an FMU to run around 6-7 psi of boost. The problem is that on the Fuel rail for my Wrangler there is no fuel return line, my question is how should i install the FMU? should i just run a fuel return line to the tank? and remove the regulator and filter assembly from the tank and use an inline filter?

any help greatly appreciated.

thanks
John

Re: Installing FMU

You will have to remove the stock pressure regulator/filter and run a return line. You may have to modify the stock fuel sender assembly to eliminate that regulator. You will have to run a regular fuel filter before the fmu and tap into the sender for the return off the fmu by drilling a hole and maybe using some brass fittings and jb weld.

Check it:

Or you can take out the FPR out of the fuel pump assembly and run a return line.

you dont need to run a return line to the tank. You can tee a ling off before a inline boost pump, then T it again at the fuel rail. Bring that line into the FMU, then back to the T before the inline boost pump.

I did this setup on my dakota for 2 years with no problems. Had consistant fuel pressure rise like a FMU should.

Could you elaborate on this? I have the same problem with my is300 (returnless) I think I know what your taking about... ???

I sure can. Heres a drawing I sketched up real quick when I did my fuel system, Yours will be setup up the exact same if you dont have a return line. Just change around the fitting sizes to meet your needs. I wrote in the fitting sizing so I would only need to make one trip to the hardware store. I used a MSD inline booster pump. From my experience this pump will get you in the 500hp range, feeding over 100psi to the injectors with a 12:1 FMU plate.

If I ever install an fmu again on a returnless fuel system, I am goint to try it that way.

---- yea, thanks man, :6

that makes it much easier to understand. All the is300 guys run it to the tank, but then again they run madtyte jdm fuel systems too. :-X
