injector tech question : please help
 

im installing some 87 rx7 injectors (460cc) into my d16y8..(obd2), and i cant get the injectors to fit into the manifold no matter how many seals are stacked, so im wondering if somethin in the manifold needs to be pulled out (from the old injectors) or maybe some can offer some better advice

i think you should sell the rx7 injectors and score some dsm 450s' my dsm 450s' slid right in after i grinded the inside of some new seals to fit. had them running 1 1/2 years, no problems.

soo in other words removing that brown piece that the stock injectors clipped into? (view pic above), because with that removed the rx7 injectors fit..i just wanted to verify that it doesnt hurt anything to remove that brown piece?

Yeah, its fine. just make sure you have it good enough so it seals and holds vaccume.

Something does not look right with that picture. And something brown is still in the hole?

Once you have removed the factory injectors, the machined aluminum of the intake manifold is all you should see. And that's not brown, unless it is fuel stained, which should be cleanable.

Try laying an RX injector next to your factory injectors, and make sure that there is not a great physical difference between them (with the seals installed on the injectors). It is the sealing areas that you are concerned with mostly, and to a lesser degree the depth the pintle cover protrudes into the hole. The distance into the hole can be a little more, but not much less. If I remember right, there are three seals, the bottom one, the green o-ring, and the one right below the green o-ring(middle seal). The distance between the bottom of the bottom seal, and the top of the middle seal is very important. This distance should be the same height as your factory seal distances. It is okay if they are a bit more, but not okay to be less. This distance is important because this is what creates the seal between the injector and the fuel rail. It's the pressure created when the fuel rail bolts are tightened down, it clamps down on the seals. If the distance is to big, the clamping action can deform the seals. If it is too small, they might leak.
