Default info on jrsc? Local threw a belt downshifting now it won't keep em on.

Local with a GSR threw the belt off his Jackson Super Charger He was slowing down to turn around when it happened, I wasn't really paying attention. We assumed sonething fucked up when he downshifted but like I said, I wasn't paying attention. We went back in my ride and found the belt shredded on the middle of the road. I ran into him yesterday and he said it won't keep a belt anymore, every time he gets on it the belt flies. I havn't had a chance to look at the car to check pulley alignment and tension and all that jazz, just looking for a little insight about known issues or what to look for.

Any insight into these systems besides what looks to me like bandaide management for fuel and timing? (I gave it the onceover and does this thing seriously jsut use an fmu?) He's talking about putting a larger pulley on it and I told him he should convert to OBD1 with some 450's would be the safest and easiest bet, am I right? Looking at their site it looks like they put an fmu on it, add a ignition retarding box and an fuel pump for upgrades, before they finally throw hondata and 440's on there for 'high boost' upgrade. They want like 1600 for that ----, and I have no idea what people would want to tune hondata around here. (basically 1600 for 440's, 2 pulleys, hondata with a basemap, and a couple bolts and belts)

Cliffs:
-can something ---- up when downshifting with these chargers, if so what to look for.
-damn they gouge you for some bandaide upgrades. or am i missing something?

Well i guess if he downshifted to really high rpm's it could have shredded the belt that way. It is just a belt after all. What kinda car are you talking about. A little more info would help. As for it not keeping new belts on, i would say pully alignment or tension are your best bets to look at. If both those check out then maybe the actual pully is damaged or something along those lines.

It's a 96 or 7 gsr, he just bought it a few weeks ago already 'built'. I havn't checked alignment or tension personally yet, just going on the kids word that they were adjusted and aligned fine. I am going to put my money on not enough tension on the belt the more I think about it.

thoughts:
I really don't think he spun the thing that fast-people spin them faster with different pulleys to get more pressure output.
I can't see how spinning it faster would damage the pulley. unless spinning it faster with the bypass vavle open is different.

Thanks

Check to make sure it spins freely and theres no wobble in the pulley. If theres a tensioner check it out. Bearing on my a/c tensioner owned me.
