impossible project Need Help

I am a college student takin Mechanical Engineering 101 For our final we have been give a group project Create a type of boost for a 420A engine Butnot aftermarket parts. A cheap Homemade turbo boost system. Right now my idea is to hook a fuel injector to a soleniod Need help Anybody got an idea or have done it before Help please

You could route two exhaust ports back to the intake. Its boost, just not the kind you want.

Re: impossible project Need Help

What about some sort of gas that expands once it sees the heat from the engine?

What about the old school days of using a smog pump to boost pressures slightly?

Or, you could do something like the new Mercedes (I think), that has a pump hooked up to the crank that uses steam to increase rotational force. Not quite boost but it does add power.

I forget who did it, but some guys boosted several cars with a gas leaf blower. It worked too

No aftermarket? The head off to the junkyard in search of an itty bitty ass turbo :)

wtf!?

You really gotta be more specific than this. And how much do you care about the engine.
Do you have to prove it's effectiveness or can you just sticker tune? What's the story?

Re: impossible project Need Help

Make an electric pump that injects pressurized air into the engine. Basically an air compressor hooked up to feed the engine. The electricity can be supplied by the rotating axle of the wheel, or better yet, the crank.

Re: impossible project Need Help

The idea of the project is recreate the same effects of a turbo but nota the same design. A turbo pressurize the intake air by using the exhaust is isn't it possible to use some time of electric air pump. If so how to create low and high boost how the hell would u go about connecting it to weak ass 420 A engine

Re: impossible project Need Help

if you conneted an air pump to it, couldnt you put a resistor with a switch to the power to lower the voltage so it runs slower?

Yea wtf, and you're in college?

Maybe Durkastan college. Take some English courses.

Why is it not possible to use an electric pump?
Like you said yourself, a turbo pressurizes intake air because of energy derived from the flowing exhaust gasses. With an electric pump your energy is derived from somwhere else, like the revolving crank as I suggested. You will be mimicking the effect of a turbo, which is what your project requires. Unless I misunderstood you because your typing skills aren't too great.

Electric pump is also know as an electric supercharger sold on ebay for $50. Does not work and it's awfull running of the 12 volt battery.

Here's an interesting read on the idea:

Re: impossible project Need Help

1) Remove P/S
2) Get Electric Blower or any blower
3) Fabricate pulley to go on axle of fan
4) Brace Blower and have intake pipe to TB
5) Connect with the old P/S belt

Vague, but my thoughts.

EDIT: http://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/05/fb/94/1b_1.JPG
(Remove right side and add Pulley.)

am i just stupid or does a lot of people not know what the ---- a 420A engine is?

I believe it came in dogde neons and the mitsu eclipse rs.

Technically, if you just get parts from the junkyard they're not aftermarket but OEM.

Ha, oh I know, but the dude is throwing out poor descriptions and the way it sounds you need to make something to make more HP. I'm sure you could find a way to do it that way. Yea, 420a is non-turbo Mistubishi and Neon motor. Get the mani and stuff from a junkyard; if you're allowed.

you need to define "aftermarket" and tell us exactly what the rules are (word for word preferrable)

I got a better description of the strict rules:

The rules are to create a boost system on a non turbo engine having so and doing it on the motor itself without using parts not and or timingly available not after except when production doing so. Intake systems pressurized power ratio.
