I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

I suck. Anyone tell me what turbo will boost 6 psi the fastest and most efficiently on a 2 liter four banger?

no

It takes a little more info than just that.

j/k, go with a small turbo, a lot of my buddies go with the dsm turbos, they seem to like it. cheap easy and affordable.

Hmm... A20A3, stock rebuild (9.1:1 cr). Maybe Stage two regrind cam, what paeco calls their FI cam. Probably go with a custom log manifold. Need more?

on a 2 liter im assuming a b20, a big t3 should do the trick if your planning to rev higher go with a t3/t4.

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

A turbo that flows a hair under 300cfm @ 1.4bar pressure ratio would be a good starting point. From there, check out different compressor maps and find the one that those 2 numbers will be closest to the peak efficiency island on the map.

A20's love boost, 6 psi on a small turbo is ----. After seeing the motor you posted I'd say look into a garrett t3 60 trim or something close. Rpm's limit your topend, so a .48 a/r exhaust housing would reach boost threshold in a timely manner and not choke up at your 6500 redline. Go for around 8psi off of it...you'll love every second once it's tuned. ;)

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

on the focus that is also 2.0, i use the t3 .48/.60 60 trim and it works very good. Stage 1½ even better.

Even faster spoolup?? Go GT2554R BB or maybe twin turbo it with some tiny gt12 turbos!!

I'm probably going to have one for sale lol. Mines from a probe, vj11

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

Kamil, you got the stage 1½ one if i remember well?

About the IHI rhB5, YEah, the probe one is much easier to work with. The subaru 3 bolts flange is really odd.
THe main RHB5 weakness is a huge crack accross the wastegate dump hole which, unlike T3's, quickly enlarges and creates a lan exhaust pressure eak that kills your spool up and power. it's very hard to fix and not really worth it anyways. Just open the wastegate flapper and inspect the hole for crack prior to buy / install.

And you're saying this why? ::) Most saab t3's are .42/.48's and a few have t-25's. Merkur's, turbo-coupes, and svo's have a more desirable .48/.60 t3, but they're not a 60 trim.

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

actually Yes, the ford t3 48/60 is a 60 trim T3 and some of them (std shift) are .63/.60 which is even more diseribale, just like the nissan z31 t3.

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

8psi sounds nice, but I've always been under the impression that stock internals wouldn't put up with more than 6psi for long before going out. Now, short of upgrading the fuel system, I planned on running completely stock on the internals. Do you think stock A20A pistons and rods would hold up to 8psi?

xternal 04-09-2007 05:53 PM

Re: I'm a noob. Recommend a turbo?

depends how good a tune you can offer your car , good tune 8psi will last

I don't know if I can even chip these old ass ECUs. I've heard 4g Accord ECUs will work, but I'll have to check it out. Otherwise, I'll need to find some other way to tune things.

You can find everything you need to know here. http://www.3geez.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=4 Minus the more technical stuff turbo wise.

You cannot chip the 3rd gen accord ecus, and I've never heard about running a 4g accord ecu. The closest thing that has been found that will run the motor nicely is the p75 ecu.

I would recommend swapping to OBD1 and then then start thinking about putting the turbo on. Unless you just want to run a BTM and a SAFC, but OBD1 is the way to go, its not to bad, the biggest obstacle is figuring out how your going to mount the OBD1 distributor the rest is just a little wiring.
