ihi rhb5 rebuild

Does anyone have a write up on how to rebuild an IHI RHB5 turbo? Thanks.

It's just that it's such a small low cost turbo that people usually don't rebuild them cause it's just not worth it. You could just look around and find one in good shape for what the rebuild kit cost itself. How bad is it that you need to rebuild it?

i tried to rebuild one... There are a lot of small screws that hold on the thrust bearing.... they strip easy. you need a impact screwdriver to say the least. I say either find another IHI or move up in turbos. Ive rebuilt a Mitsu turbo and it was way way easier. I didnt finish the IHI. 2 bolts broke getting the housing off and i did all the little tricks to break them loose. I just said screw it and left it in pieces :-[

hell for the price of a rebuild kit I alway say screw it and just head out to the junkyard and get something else for 50 bucks or for free and just throw it over the fence and get it later :P
