the ihi on t-birds is tiny as ---- but ive heard of people making hybrids with other rhb5s, which still produces a tiny turbo

It might get you to 200 whp.

Chris Gerhardt ran two of them on a 302, he said it strangled the top end but still had good power. To do over he'd have gone with the T3's.

FYI, the 87-88 Thunderchicken's IHI has the VJ22 compressor which is the biggest OEM unit I know of. You may be able to take aftermarket or WRX or STi swill and make a hybrid, but you've just entered a world where things aren't so cheap and the turbine is still way to small and restrictive.

Single turbo on a 302, grab a Holset HX35 or HX40. Good for 550 and 700 whp respectively. The stock turbine on the HX35 might be a tad small for you and hinder top end, but for the price they go for used if you run out and buy a new 16-18 cm^2 turbine housing it'll probably be the same price total for a pair of used .60/.48 or .60/.63 T3's.

I say bolt the big ---- turbos on there, split that wimpy 302 block down the middle, then stick a 351W in it's place and prepare to die because you can't hold the car to the road. It's how I plan to die! O0

Re: IHI RHB5

No, don't get T3 mixed up. The T3 on the Warner Ishi/IHI is a very small T3. The only thing T3 about it is the actual inlet from the manifold. The turbine itself is still the turbine used in the IHI RHB5 VJ11. It is a good ENTRY LEVEL turbo, but shouldn't be compared to any of the larger T3's.

The turbine trim would be a .67 because 42.4/51.8^2=67

And the compressor trim would be .55 because 39/52.5^2= 55

I haven't calculated the A/R of the exhuast side but the VJ exhaust side has ar A/R of .46

EDIT: I should clarify that the Warner Ishi/IHI VC32 (T Bird) and the IHI RHB5 VJ11 share the same turbine. All numbers are of inducer/exducer and are in mm.

Stevemode said it best - "...Yea, I run that T-Bird pump, that .48/.60..." That's my $.02. I have no i-d-e-a besides what the song says. LOL. I learned how to turbo from a song.
