Ignition advance ?'s
I was looking over a friends ignition map on a D16 with "he claims" 110oct leaded fuel. He's running a Holset Hy35 @ 12psi.
Dyno paper he emailed me showed on the 4th pull 243hp, but on his map I'm seeing 27-32' advance? I'm by no means a Engine Tuner I leave it to the Pro's for that. But I went and checeked my map on my H22A and I'm at 23-26' advance at most. Is this alot of advance? Would you rather turn up the psi and be more resourceful with the advance. I asked him whats he going to do when he has to get pump, and he said retune it next week for that. Any idea's why so much advance? |
Re: Ignition advance ?'s
This belongs in engine management.

Re: Ignition advance ?'s
It's a forced induction motor so it can be in both.

Well I went to the hondata site and looked at a few of their maps that they have posted and they are pretty much the same but going with 50 and scaling down at it get higher into load and rpm. I guess the numbers and EXTREME RED boxes just threw me off |
Re: Ignition advance ?'s
No two engine/engine setupo's are the same, do the Sweet Spot tune and dont worry about what everyone else is running/doing.
No point in running more timeing than the sweet spot tune, unless you looking for a nice big bang.... |
Re: Ignition advance ?'s
I agree but just the point of seeing 50-30's advance with respect of crank angle just bawgs my dome. Seems like alot of stress on the bearings and rods

This is the stock high cam ignition table for a z6, I cant imagine a y8 being too much different. Ignition advances are in the 40's where you are saying, big deal how often do you run 6k+rpm with that much vac. even so big deal. I'm not a professional tuner by any means but those columns are in vac. anyway, that much ignition advance in the boost side of the table would prolly be a different story though.
