Idle problem

Hey, i have an idle problem with my 93 civic, it idles up and down between ~1100-1600 rpm. The tps sensor works, i turned the idle screw in as far as it can go. My car is suppose to idle at 600 rpm any ideas? My car isnt running boost yet, i want to get this fixed before i do.

Thanks

Re:Idle problem

Do you have any vacuum leaks?
Is this before or after your radiator fan turns on?
What is it at with the AC system running (if you have it)?
What is it at with the exterior lights on?

It could be a vacuum hose leak (you can hear for this), a dirty throttle body, your throttle cable could need adjusting, these are just a few things to check.

I just had this problem today. You said the tps works, but is the voltage correct? Should be between 4.5-5.0, It fixed my problem.

I have the same problem. A local speed shop said they fixed it for me, and it was fixed for a while but it is starting up again. They said that something in the throttle body was dirty and they cleaned it but how can it get that dirty again. I have a turbo on my car and it has a K&N filter on it. Does anyone here have a solution for me. ???

I believe they were talking about cleaning the EICV. In some cases you can clean it and it will work fine, but if it is bad you will need to get a new one and they aren't cheap. If you say it has been cleaned and it is still having problems, you probably need a new one.

Re:Idle problem

As far as i know there are no vaccum leaks, my vaccum gauge reads betweem 20-22 psi at idle. I went through the manual and followed the steps to adjust idle, every accessory turned off etc. It worked fine in the summer, and then once winter came along i started screwing up, i know its suppose to idle higher when its cold but when it gets to operating temperature it should go down right? The tps voltage is also correct. This EICV, is it mounted on the back of the intake manifold and has coolant lines running to it?

Re:Idle problem

Yeah, the eicv is on the back of the intake manifold and has two hoses and a wiring plug. I cleaned mine once and it kinda helped. Try some carb cleaner. Take that thing off and spray the ---- out of it.
