Okay so its been awhile since I have posted here, close to a year now actually. Well I picked up an 04 Ion Redline, 2.0 supercharged. and basicly the supercharger sucks. It blows alot of heat yayaya. The car has a water to air intercooler stock but its really not that great. I can still see IATs after blower upper 150-200degree temp depending on the ambient air at WOT of coarse.
so my idea is to plumb in-line with the Heat exchanger a Ice box. but it needs to be in the engine bay area so space is an issue.
What would be the most effecient given the space. A small, very small sized core, radiator style core enclosed in a box for ice. Or say copper/aluminum pipe coiled in a spring shape inside a enclosed box for ice?
If I were to do the copper coil, I have the ability to do it here at home, because i can weld a sheet metal box together and solder the copper inside the box to seal it all.
Anything aluminum would have to be custom made by a shop.

if i under stand you right your trying to cool the coolent before it goes in to the air/water intercooler right? If so i would probley buy a cheap oil cooler mount it in ide a sealable metalbox and plan on filling it with dry ice when at the track just because water on the track is a nono that just what i would do

I would replacate a known proven air-water intercooler setup. Ditch the roots...most are around 50% efficient (source needed) and the excessive parasitic loss.
You SHOULD/might have the stock fuel map to go turbo with the same stock psi and enjoy much better results. The only supercharger I would rock would be the Lyscholm or centrifugal unit--preferably Lyscholm. You might be able to make a blockoff plate for the pulley end of the supercharger after gutting it and go turbo like the GTP grand prix guys do when they go turbo. The Eaton Roots blower is a cost effective design that ------ sucks. I owned a 95 riviera that had a similar supercharger and believe me, for 7psi on a 3800 v6 with 8.5 c/r it was fucken slow.

well, I am planning on swapping to a turbo next summer, but i will be retaining the stock intercooler. Nothing like a gt2871 with about 1.5ft of charge piping

the other guys got my idea, and i never thought about an oil cooler. But would that work better than say a copper piping coiled up in a spring design inside a sealed box ?
the #1 killer of these motors is the heat from the charger. GM rates them to 300whp (with mods obviously) before the pistons give out usually melt/ break the upper ringland. there has not been to many people to touch 300whp with the stock charger. With a turbo set-up i could safely make 300-350whp no problems, on stock motor.
ps. my charger right now runs 13-14psi, intercooled and 9.5:1 cr.. its not super fast and traction is an issue, but sure as hell is fun. my best time so far is 14.747 @ 97mph with a 2.4 60'.. If i could get traction i have confident that i could touch 13's very easily. BTW my only mod is a slightly smaller charger pully. The smallest i could use on stock injectors bigger than the stage 2 pulley

well i would think that the oil cooler in a box would be more efficient becuase they are already purpose built to shed heat, add ice too it and you have a pretty good set up. i dont know how the copper tube would work since ive never seen one personally. ditch the charger or gut it and add a turbo, sounds more fun to me.
